Cubism was an art movement that appeared in the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. This movement marked a new beginning in the field of not only in art but also in architecture, building, and planning as it largely influences how these three fields would be carried out from then on. Architects, builders and planners termed it as a new representation of the world. People such as Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso and Albert Gleizes are considered the forces behind this new movement of art. It involved convincing people of a new method of design that was using less ornament to create stronger impact. Cubism also fused African art with nature. One remarkable result of cubism was the presentation of objects in a three dimension lay out so that objects would be viewed from several angles at once, hence giving the viewer a broader meaning. Cubism was implemented in two stages; the analytical phase from 1906 to 1913. In this period, the desired object was observed from several viewpoints and finally construction it again within a geometric structure. The main reason was to create an image that brought out meaning in the desired object (Factory).
This design was successfully made through the fusion of specific colors. In 1913, analytical cubism was deemed to be running out of creativity due to the similarity in images created. So as to revive cubism and gain back its popularity, Picasso fused real images with his own creations (Green). These type of works paved way for the second phase of cubism that is synthetic cubism. The driving force behind Synthetic cubism was the introduction of simple and clearly constructed collage shapes. ...unique interiors. The floor has different components such as lamps and bars in line with cubism. The pavilion also has a cubist touch added to it by Gocar. Rondocubism, a style born out of cubism is also largely exhibited in Czech. The building that housed the Czechoslovakia Legions bank has cubes, geometrical touches largely fused together to come up with a magnificent building. Rondocubism also influenced the architectural designs behind industries (Vestka)
In conclusion, even though Cubism is an art movement in 20th century started in France it’s influence on modern architecture is significant. Unique characteristic of Cubism provides three-dimensional quality to two-dimensional art works. This characteristic has given opportunities for architects to develop architectural designing, planning, and building by applying the idea of cubism through out the process.
