Everyone, at some point in their lives, will wear a mask to hide what truly lies beneath it. For Ash, this was an everyday occurrence in her life. She always wore a mask to hide the fact she had depression, anxiety and that she simply didn’t enjoy life. She wore this mask in the house and on the odd occasion she left the went out with family. Ash never really had friends, something every 16 year old with depression could use. She was always too scared that if she made friends, she would hurt them with her ‘problems’ but, she had never actually made an attempt to make friends. Instead, she would sit at home on the internet, drawing or listening to music. Today, however, was different. Ash wandered through the vacant and colourless halls of her old abandoned high school. It had burned down almost a year ago after an act of arson from some local boys. As the broken glass crunched beneath her tattered, old converse shoes, the sound echoing through the vacant halls, as she looked around at the halls she used to wander with other students, usually a clear example of a bustling society within a small area. Her parents had no idea that she had depression and anxiety as they were always too busy with work to pay much attention to her. Ash was forced to look after herself while her parents worked in their office within the house while not at the company office. She would often cook for her parents, which they were ungrateful for most of the time, clean the house, do the washing and walk 7 miles to go shopping then having to carry it all back herself.
