The Truth about Social Media People say that they like social media? What happens when a photo of a teen’s suspension letter that was posted on social media is discovered by their dream college? Social media is several different websites and apps where users can create and post images and videos online or talk with their friends. Most teenagers use social media every day, and love it. But, some others know better. Social media never affects teenagers in good ways. To begin, social media is very negative because it is humiliating for teenagers. In the article, “Could You Become a Mean Meme?” Kristin Lewis claims that teenagers can’t make mistakes without it being posted online and them being humiliated. (Page 14, Col. 1) To explain, if something embarrassing or humiliating is posted online, cyberbullies and bullies could make fun of someone for it. Additionally, the article, “Are You Being Watched” says, “But your phone will remember forever.” (Page 15, Col. 2) In other words, teens will eventually forget all about the humiliating things that happened to them, but their phone will not ever forget and could bring back an old humiliating photo or video. …show more content…

Anything on social media could be made public, whether one wants that or not. Furthermore, the article, “Are You Being Watched?” states, “Pretty much everything we do online… is recorded.” (Page 15, Col. 2) Most teenagers have a false sense of privacy when on social media because they’re on something “private”.
