Cosmetics are defined by the statement, "a product applied to the body, especially the face, to improve its appearance." Are women too reliant on cosmetics to improve their self-image? Cosmetics are a major factor in millions of lives whether that be from self-confidence to make up for a play. As the years go by cosmetics continue to improve on efficiency and availability. Dating back to ancient Rome the term cosmetics was used differently. They simply used it as a way to mask body odor by covering themselves in perfume (Chaudhri, 164). The use of cosmetic products have evolved drastically. Egyptians simply used henna, a dye made from the plant Lawsonia, to stain their nails as if it were nail polish. They also used kohl, a dark powder made from burnt almonds, as an eyeliner or eyebrow filler. Kohl was thought to have helped poor …show more content…

First starting out as the overused of perfume to mask body odor. Only the nobles were allowed to use then open to all for everyone of a different class. Once made of safe products then to products sometimes causing death. Even told that cosmetics are simply not necessary and that they shouldn’t be used. Throughout history cosmetics have had the ability to be the thing only the rich could afford, to being in every woman’s hands. Some believe cosmetics are the reason for poor self-esteem or the case of woman not being confident in themselves. But without makeup some woman don’t have confidence. Some actors are unable to believe in their skill without a new face. The improvement in cosmetics have allowed millions to believe in their abilities. They have become part of a daily routine whether that be to wash your face or hair to powdering your face white like snow. Cosmetics will forever be a major part in history.
