In World War II, a lot of people are slaughtered by a man who has absolute power. This man was Adolf Hitler and he murdered 6 million Jewish. A lot of people see him as a powerful dictator, because of his mass murder. People often see often as the ability the to get what someone wants at first thought. However, it has wider concept, it has a more complex structure. It could be used for a lot of purposes and has a lot of type. If some leaders or some institutions have absolute power, ultimately the power they have will corrupt the order expects some kind of power such as knowledge, love, etc.
If a man has absolute power which human kind cannot be handled, eventually it will be harmful for other people or social order. There is plenty example of historical events in the past which are a proof that power-holders and absolute power-holders corrupt the social order. The most known event is the Holocaust, also known as Shoah. As mentioned before, 6 million Jewish were murdered by a powerful people, Hitler was a dictator so that he could make his army whatever he wants. This kind of huge power causes a lot of people death. Hitler is not only example for this kind of dictator, even in our modern world, there are plenty of leaders who made a lot of people suffer from them not only their nationalities. The writer of the Three Face of Power, Kenneth B. Boulding is also saying that “The dark side of the power of destruction is violence and war” (9). They just trying to overcome the though situations, in order to that they have to take a lot of responsibilities. Taking a lot of responsibility doesn’t make them absolute power-holder or a dictator. Therefore, that cannot be said a leader is an absolute power-holder.
In conclusion, if a man or group has the absolute power, power that human cannot be handled, the power they have eventually corrupts or harm other people and social order. Also when they don’t have power and became powerful then before by gaining some degree, they will lose some of their unique human skills. This will also can be considered as some kind of corruption. However, not the all kind of power harm or damage anything such as power of knowledge or power of love.
What is power to a human? As time has gone by, there have been many forms of control and influence in the world. Many strive to achieve total rule over a society or group of individuals. Yet the question still presents itself to the average man. Why does man desire power so greatly even though there is visible trouble that follows? Shelley’s Frankenstein, Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron”, and Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, whether through the situation or the character themselves, depict the evils and hardships due to an imbalance and poor management of power.
Power causes the dictator to lose sight of his/her morals and good intentions thus resulting in causing corruption among themselves and also those around them. These aspects can be easily seen in Animal Farm and The Wave particularly when the dictators get too addicted to power and rationalises their treacherous actions as if to say “What I am doing is for your own good.” This manipulation of language demonstrates how the dictator takes advantage and wrongly uses power to justify his ways. The simple idea of power can cause addiction and corruption without anyone realising, which has been proven to end in very dangerous situations in both novels. Power. It is defined as the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. Throughout time, certain individuals have acquired power in their society as a way to govern and keep order among their community. Power is not a new concept; it was used in the past by many emperors, kings, and queens, and is still being used by presidents, prime ministers, and dictators. Although, it has been used to further progress societies into what the world is like today, not all power has been used for the best of mankind. But what goes awry to make power turn corrupt? In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is illustrated how power can turn corrupt, when authoritative figures, who possess power, abuse it for their personal gain, rather than for the common good of the society.
All people have power, some people are just more powerful than others. Having power is the ability to create change. Examples of power being used wrongly is during the French revolution, and the residential school crisis. During the French revolution, two examples were shown of people abusing their power. King Louie XVI raised taxes so that he could buy things that he and his wife Marie Antoinette wanted, and took away rights from the third estate. In the residential schools crisis, the teachers, priests and nuns had power over the students and abused the students in different ways. Superior people take away the rights from those who are below them, but they end up corrupt.

The characters Monseigneur, Marquis of Evermonde, and the revolutionaries all become corrupt in the end because of the power they possessed. If they did not possess power, they would not have been able to complete the actions they had planned to. Then, if they’re actions did not occur, the corruption they caused would cease to exist
The statement, “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely”, simply means that the more power one has – the more control one has over people – then the more corrupt it is possible for that person to become. This statement is certainly correct if the person with the power has certain proclivities towards corruption. There are many examples in the book, “Animal Farm”, by George Orwell, of power corrupting those in charge because they had these tendencies. In the story, the most powerful animals are the two pigs, Napoleon and, to a lesser degree, Snowball. During the course of the story these pigs used their power to get more power, and in the process their inclinations towards corruption triumphed. When Old Major, the boar who came up with the idea of all animals uniting against humans, died, Napoleon and Snowball saw an opportunity where they could take control and took it. Napoleon used force to get rid of Snowball and take all the power for himself, and he used fear to keep the other animals from revolting. He used scapegoats so that he could not be blamed for anything that went wrong, and propaganda to brainwash the animals into loyal slaves. Napoleon changed and broke the commandments of Animal Farm to benefit himself, and he lacked empathy for all those who worked hard for him, executing those that might cause him trouble.

Power doesn't always breed corruption, For example, Martin Luther King Jr. used his powerful voice to finally get rid of racism. He did not encourage people to use violence, instead he said words are mightier than fist. Which proved to be true.

The truth and reason behind this phrase is clearly evident, as there have been a number of infamous rulers who have failed to resist the pull of power. One of these egregious monarchs was President Suharto from Indonesia, who had committed heinous crimes and actrocities in order to remain in his position of power. Authority in a society is a necessary evil which when unfettered, results in the abuse of power. Power has long been considered a corrupting and a disrupting force in function and in influence. Underlying motives and greed fuel those who seek to gain and or abuse this power. The Crucible examines this twisted force as it corrupts societies’ clergy, blinds its justices, and empowers those who seek to abuse it. Arthur Miller shows how power can be a corrupting influence and how it can blind the judgment of authoritative figures.

In this situation at the airport with the customs officer, it is important to distinguish between business ethics and personal ethics. In a business ethics situation, the Foreign Corruption Practices Act would prohibit offering any bribe to the custom office – for example to free a shipment of goods that was lost in red tape (Pitman & Sanford, 2006). Most companies also have policies against bribery as well. In this situation, however the main issue at hand is that of personal ethics. When in a situation where your company is unknown and there is no business being conducted, normal business ethics and laws (including FCPA) do not apply only personal ethical standards.
