Responsibility of Correction Officers
Correctional Officers around the nation is face with a lot of reasonability on a daily basis. Correctional Officers are reasonable for all law enforcement duties within the jail and prison system which is county, state and federal. According to the Bureau of labor statistics there are 469,500 correction officers around the nations working rotating shifts which can range from 8 to 10 hour shifts. The Bureaus also states correctional officer position can be dangerous and stressful. Every year many correction officers has encounter a serous confrontation with inmates, the officer is exposed to contagious diseases.

Correction officers have been known to trafficking in contra band, theft sexual relations with inmates, theft of weapons and brutality and much other unethical behavior. (McCarthy 1991:196) All actions are captured on video tape and they are highly trained officers who can detain inmates without harming them. Within the prison corruption is on a high level. For example two high level correction administrations is severing time in Florida prison. The correction administration was found guilty on accepting over 100,000 in kickback money from a company that in return want the contract for the canteen within the institution. (Morgan 2010:197) According to the author it is difficult for correction officers to testify against each other, many correction officers won’t break the code of silence. There is a small amount of correction officers that choses to participate in illegal or unethical practices, however they are protected by a majority of correction officers who are afraid to come forward and expose their fellow officers. I believe because of the officers that choses unethical practices as an option to have a job, has crated society to believe that all law enforcement is bad and love to control and harm people. This is a stereotype that would be hard to prove different. All the stories you hear about law enforcement is negative and corruption and unethical practice is on top of the list. This has created society to not trust law enforcement. For example on July 8, 2015 a New York correction officer with gang ties was busted for selling heroin. There were 500 glassines of heroin and $7,000 of cash was found at the correction officer home. These are the cases that cause society to lose respect for all areas of law enforcement. We have to believe in our law enforcement and not allow the unethical thinkers take over our way of
