Coriolanus is a play where a Roman hero, Coriolanus, was betrayed by the very people he was trying to protect. This occurred because he was filled with pride and his pride was ultimately what led to his downfall. Coriolanus is a hero of Rome who was adored by the rich because he was a fearless warrior who brought great victories to his country. Coriolanus was flawed in the way that he had a short tempter and his need to bring honour to his family’s name and making his family proud. This flaw was shaped by the society he lived in and the pressure placed upon him by his family, especially his mother, Volumnia.
