Many people believe that contact sports are a problem due to the increase in injuries among adolescent players. Injuries like concussions can cause permanent damage or death to a young athlete. There are so many benefits to playing though, sports, in general, require a healthier lifestyle as well as the ability to work with others. While contact sports can definitely be dangerous, there are ways to focus on safety that would allow younger students to reap the rewards of the sport without suffering a life-changing injury.

Playing contact sports encourages players to want to live healthier by exercising harder at practice and doing extra workouts. This will help them feel better on the inside and out.
Playing contact sports such as football has many effects on an athlete like for example it reduces aggression by allowing athletes to demonstrate an aggressive action toward or against another player (person) without being penalize. Second it enhances the athlete’s self-esteem by building character and being a team player. There are ways to make contact sports safer. One way is by improving equipment (helmets) and the other way is by pushing for more education on concussions. Companies are working hard to improve helmets so when the player has a head to head collison the player won’t receive a concussion. By having better helmets players will receive less head trauma. Companies are coming up with new ideas to help athletes not receive the serious amounts of hits that could possibly lead to concussions; along with improving equipment; playing at a higher skill level, changing standards of the game; key is prevention (Dean 140-141).
Educating parents and players about concussions is another way to keep the players safe. Showing the athlete the right way to combat his or her opponent as well as the right way to fall will decrease the chance or re occurrences of concussions.
