This project contains material from a variety of sources. Two of these sources include a newspaper article from the New York Times and a document found on the database ELibrary. The newspaper article, titled Congo’s War Turns to Brutal Killings on City’s Streets, is a primary source that was created by Norimitsu Onishi at the New York Times newspaper with the intention of informing people about the wars in the DRC. It was published August 28, 1998, the day after the events written about occurred. This document exists to inform the readers of the New York Times about the events happening in the DRC at the time of publication. Onishi does mention the view points and complaints of Rwanda and Uganda, two countries helping the rebels. From this piece, the reader can infer that it was written while the Congo Wars were in full swing and while President Kabila was in power. Although this source has many benefits, it leaves out the side of the rebels. It also leaves out the side of those killed by civilians and soldiers because they were suspected to be rebels. The reader cannot tell why the rebels are rebelling. The next document, titled Congo, the Democratic Republic of, is a secondary source. This source, which originated in the Hutchinson Encyclopedia in 2011, has not listed author or publication date. This document exists to further inform people of the events occurring before, during, and after the Congo Wars. The author formatted this article by breaking it down into one to three paragraph sections with bold headings. The reader can assume this was done to distinguish each main event and provide a clear timeline. The intended audience is anyone who is interested in the Congo Wars, although some of the language used points to an audience with a higher intellectual
