Case Description

The situation I have identified is that Conestoga College Doon Campus does not offer enough healthy, yet still affordable, food options for students and faculty. This is a rhetorical situation because the situation can be changed or modified. The exigence in this situation is that many students are becoming more and more health conscious, but do not have the healthy food options that are still affordable. My audience is Jennifer Bruder, the food services director for Chartwells at Conestoga, as she is the one who could make the decision about offering more healthy food options. College aged students are usually on a budget, or have a limited amount of funds to work with. This demographic then faces a problem, because healthy foods are more costly than those of their greasy, fattening counterparts are. Students of Conestoga College Doon Campus would greatly appreciate Chartwells Canada offering them more affordable food options that are still healthy and delicious. As a Conestoga College student myself, I feel as though I can attest to this fact. There are days when I come to Conestoga Doon for a long day of classes, and do not bring my own lunch with me, because I rely on the food services on campus. However, as I am health-conscious, but still on a budget, I have troubles finding something that satisfies all of my needs and wants. While I understand that healthy food options are usually more expensive than foods that are not nutritional, if Chartwells could somehow offer the students of Conestoga foods that satisfy both sides, students would be grateful and utilize the services much …show more content…

Campus Mind Works, from the University of Michigan, says that, “nutrition has been linked with emotional, physical, and cognitive health.” Physical health is not the only thing affected by healthy eating; it is observed that it can influence many other aspects of life. Best Colleges states that an unhealthy diet can, “also risk a lower GPA, susceptibility to illness, and increased fatigue,” and all of these things are important to a college student trying to succeed in his or her chosen field of study.
