The term verisimilitude can be quite simple, there is no other explanation than trying to portray something truthful of appearance or real like. With this being said back in the Baroque era this notion of verisimilitude began and it could be seen in paintings, operas, sculptures, architecture and so forth; currently in the 21st century in addition to the ones mentioned verisimilitude can be seen in movies, videos games as well as tv-shows. How exactly verisimilitude can be achieved? By giving the illusion of movement, emotions, drama, complex perspectives and realness one can attain this style. His intentions were straight forward and he wanted to show how people perceive the world and its imperfections, in many of his art work there will be depictions of everyday things we know and see. For example: fruits covered with spots and how naturally they decay, foreshortening which is used to create the illusion of well-balanced proportions by shortening things, and simple yet dramatic scenes that are mostly religious. All of these aspects combined are characteristics that create verisimilitude in Caravaggio’s paintings. On the other hand, we have the artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini who did mostly sculptures and architecture during the same baroque era. Without question both achieving believability that keeps the audience invested in the overall story and theme of the piece and high standards of creating such amazing work. Having in mind that we have transitioned so much that many of the old views about truthfulness can be quite different. Even though many would agree that now a days this is something that can be disputed, as a counter argument there is a possibility that the idea of making things appear realistic or truthful like are not necessary or questioned. Many see that the idea of making things differently to what we see in reality makes society more apprehensive of what is yet to come as well as new styles that can develop from it. Due to many of the new and different approaches in films, shows and games that tend to part away from verisimilitude, they create an unfamiliar style but within their context that reality they create does make sense. Some may not convey verisimilitude but in their own way they are still emotional, interesting as well as unique, stimulating one’s suspension of
