Compromise Of Slavery

254 Words1 Page

Sources A and D have slightly different opinions on how the United States should address the issue of slavery. Both sources are from the same year as the Compromise of 1850 was approved and started to work in the country. Other than that, both sources come from a speech directed towards the u.s senate by a credible southerner and northerner. Speech A was given by John Calhoun, a Senator for South Carolina, on March of 1850. Calhoun defended the South by arguing on how the north had overpowered that region and how the south wasn’t receiving equal rights and benefits. John believed that the issue of slavery should be addressed by restoring the south’s power and giving the southerners part of the territory acquired from Mexico at that time.
