Preface

In our fast paced world of new and upcoming technology, the smartphone market has sky-rocked in previous decades. One of the worlds leading smart phones companies, Apple Inc, has recently been on the decline and it's top competitor Samsung is taking the stage.

In more recent years, the Apple iPhone has dominated the smartphone world known for its ease of use and high quality design. Apple's first iPhone design hit markets in June of 2007 created by Apple's founder Steve Jobs. One of Apples more recent iPhone model, the iPhone 5 which came out in September of 2012 was soon replaced by the iPhone 5c and 5s which came out a year late. Samsung stocks are slowly creeping past Apple's which have dropped 37% scene September 2013's all time high- just two days before the iPhone 5 was available in stores. In comparison IHS iSuppli, an industrial data website specializing in electronic/ media services reported that Samsung held 28% of global smartphone markets in the previous year.

Samsung VS Apple

A recent survey from a research investment firm called Canaccord Genuity concludes that more recent Galaxy phones sold more combined units in the U.S than Apple’s iPhone did in May of 2013. Respectively Android and IOS operating systems represented 91.1% of all smartphone shipments during the 4QT of 2012. In 2013, Samsung's 4QT profit rose to 76%; a record high for “strength of smartphone sales”. Comparably Apple’s stock fell by more than 5% after the launch of their new iPhone 5s and 5c.

Apple has been criticized in the past for releasing upgraded models of their products, like the iPhone before major holidays to boost profits. Its been noted that Samsung often releases their new phones during months that Apples sales ar...

...ved shares. It had been noted “around a third of the world’s handsets are sold in China to half a billion people, yet only 12% of these phones are made by apple” (UK DailyMail). The article had go one to describe that an iPhone cost around the same as an average persons month salary who resigned in a urban area.

If Apple wants to continue to prosper above Samsung in the international smartphone market, the company will need to make advances in the Chinese market place. In 2013 China was Apples second largest market, which gives the company room to improve.

Looking at Apple’s biggest competitor, Samsung, Steve Jobs legend will need to improve innovation to provide more attractive features in a new market, cheaper prices- without sacrificing quality and better marketing techniques to target specific audiences in this new and up coming market.
