W.E.B Dubois describes double consciousness as the sensation of an individual’s feeling through their identity that is divided into several parts, making it hard or impossible to have one identity. “The Souls of Black Folk” is mainly known for the 20th century problem known as the color line. The color-line is a reference to the racial segregation which prevailed in the United States after the eradication of enslavement. “Everyday Use” goes hand and hand with the eradication of enslavement due to the history of African Americans and how they were treated.
