In both of the story "To Love of Life", and "To Build a fire" by Jack London is based off the Klondike Gold Rush. Jack London's style is tone and vivid which he uses imagery and figurative language it produces feeling and image. He uses mostly naturalism, but he also uses realism, determinism, and regionalism in his books. London's theme for both of the story is nature's superiority over man. "A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog when you are just as hungry as the dog" is one of Jack London's famous quote. Jack London, born in 1876 wrote many books. In the story "Love of life" a man with his gold is trying to survive in nature, after his friend Bill deserts him, now he's all alone and nothing around him. He is losing his mind; obsessing over his watch and his matches. However, he is hungry and weak. A sick wolf follows him and waits for him to die but then the man kills him. He soon gets rescued and he has changed, he has gotten fatter and worried about losing his food. In the story "To build a fire" a man, ignoring the advice of never go alone, is trying to get to his friends, in bellow 75-degree weather. Soon fell into the water and didn't know what to do, but the dog fell and knew to bite the ice off his feet.
