These two poems, despite of its differences are still unified under the same author who laments about the same subject. Secondly, both poem are examples of Petrarchan sonnets meaning they have an octet and sestet. Lastly, both poems utilize the same thematic values that a man’s infatuation leads to duplicity in a woman. The poem “Whoso list to hunt” has a title that has both literal and symbolic implications. Literal in that the meaning in that the word “list” according to Old English translation from1500s in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) means to choose or desire something. These poems have quite a few similarities, as well as their differences. Mariam Waddington’s, “Thou Didst Say Me,” displays love being overly joyous but also heart-breaking and despondent. On the other hand Alfred Tennyson’s, “Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal,” depicts a sugary love story all calm and beautiful. Both offered their end of the bargain: conflicting sentiments toward love relations to the table and ultimately delivering a unique testimony about the subject of, love. And as always love may have its golden tragedies but one always has a hold of their own feelings of love.
The situations are not similar in the scenario, but equal in the tone of the poem. The authors show the break-up of a relationship through the pain of a separation and the loss of a partner. Sometimes one faces challenging situations and learns to survive the bad outcomes with bravery. The ideal and desired love turned into regret and depression. The romanticize concept of eternal love is broken with separation: “[t]he myth of marriage goes like this: somewhere out there is the perfect soul mate, the yin that meshes easily and effortlessly with your yang. And then there is the reality of marriage, which, as any spouse knows, is not unlike what Thomas Edison once said about genius: 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration” (Kantrowitz and Wingert). The sharing of love and joy, when one starts a relationship, does not come with the answers to all questions if in the end the love is gone, and one is looking for closure. Both these poems are great poems and emphasize on different parts of an animal’s life. The two poems are “The Blessing” and “Predators.” The four topics that will be compared and contrasted are the animals, the speaker’s feelings, the title, and the conclusions.
I see strong correlations between the two poems because they are both at face value about horrible violence situations but the poet chooses to write about issues surrounding them. Both poems explore the injustices of love and power and also the consequences of what happens with a potentially bad decision. Not only this, they both address these themes with a particular balance of the two; they both have similarities, yet they both contrast in many different ways. Each poem shares similarities which are reflections of the poets’ lives before they became literary sensations.
Although both poems are set in the same environment, and that the visual structure of the poems are similar. Once you look deeper and analysis the poems it becomes clear that they have been written in very different styles, and very different but as powerful emotions running through them i.e. grief and resignment. One poet has a future to look forward to; the other knows that death is around the corner. One poet could not have for scene a death, the other is questioning weather the ‘black diamond dust’ was worth it on reflection.
When considering the structure of the poems, they are similar in that they are both written loosely in iambic pentameter. Also, they both have a notable structured rhyme scheme.
These create a sort of volta effect, emphasized by the strong, determined word ‘No’, and followed by a caesura to create a pause, emphasizing the new change. This creates a lean towards the Petrarchan sonnet form, in which the volta lies at the beginning of the sestet, rather at the heroic couplet of the Shakespearean sonnet. This is made clearer as the first two quatrains deal with the subject of immortality by examining the star and how it watches down on Earth, while the final quatrain and couplet, or the sestet, which now has the rhyme scheme of EFGFHH, deal with how Keats instead wishes to be with his lover instead. The effect of the merged sonnet forms creates a free and lively mood which feels unconstrained and more natural. The two pieces of literature have similar qualities yet certain aspects of both are not comparable to one another. For example, throughout the poem, Bradstreet shows continuous love from the narrator. From the beginning of the poem love is prominent, “If ever two were one, then surely we” (1).

Poem, on the other hand, is English writing that has figurative language, and written in separate lines that usually have a repeated rhyme, but don’t all the time. The main and interesting thing is that these two poems or sonnets admire and compare the beauty of a specific woman, with tone, repetition, imagery, and sense of sound.

Therefore, because William Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 18” and Edmund Spenser’s “Sonnet 75” share the idea that love is sincere and eternal, they can be looked upon as similar in theme. However, although similar in theme, Shakespeare’s intent is portraying the true everlasting beauty of his love, which is already achieved, whereas Spenser concentrates more on trying to entice his desired love, remaining optimistic throughout the entire poem.

The fundamental characteristics for the Petrarchan poem structure is the two-part structure. To attain this, the author divides the eight-line octave into two four-line stanzas and the sestet into two three-line stanzas. This structure takes into account improvement of two parts of the subject, expanding the point of view of the piece.
