Poe Comparison In Edgar Allan Poe’s “Hop Frog” and “Cask of Amontillado” there are comparable elements of Gothic literature. The two main ones are sounds and an isolated protagonist. In “Cask of Amontillado” the main character is speaking to his victim and says “You are a man to be missed, as I once was” (Poe). This is saying that no one cares about him. In “Hop Frog” the main character is a dwarf who didn’t walk normal. A manifestation of this from the text says, “In fact, Hop-Frog could only get along by a sort of interjectional gait -- something between a leap and a wriggle -- a movement that afforded illimitable amusement..” (Poe).
