Women’s rights have long been debated for years, feminism remains an important topic nowadays where the equalities between men and women must be respected. However, debating their needs either socially or privately and what they really seek for is not so quite discussed. In these three poems; "Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou “Woman" by Nikki Giovanni, and "Barbie doll" by Marge Piercy, the perception of a woman is developed in different ways summarizing the needs of a woman.

In the poem titled “Woman” by Nikki Giovanni published in 1978, the speaker talks about a woman ready to do anything to find the love and support she desires in a man. She tried many times to be deserving of his love, however, as she continued in the relationship, she realized she was losing herself to please him. In the passage, Nikki mentioned: “she spun herself into a web and looking for a place to rest turned to him, but he stood straight declining to be her corner”. She compares their roles in the relationship to a spider needing a corner's support to build its web and settle down to establish their family. The woman wanted her man to be her corner, so she could have peace and her heart would be secured but he refused. “She tried to be a book, but he would not read” she wanted him to discover what she had inside, to get to know her one chapter at a time, she wanted to be a source for him to find love, but he was not willing to give her what she deserves, he was not ready to be a man. In the end, when she realized she undervalued, she did what was best for her and left the relationship. It was a good decision because after all, she remained the wonderful woman she was. Although she was underappreciated, leaving the toxic relationship did not change her
