Did you know that in Greek mythology and Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief that some character’s fate has been decided? In Greek mythology, some heroes were fated to kill their family members, while Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief was fated to fail or have a surprising ending. Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and Greek mythology both have very dramatic fates that happened to them. In Greek, Mythology heroes would try to change and avoid their fate, whereas in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief the heroes just accept their fate.
In Greek Mythology parents would try to avoid the prophecy of their son, killing them. For example, Oedipus, his father went to the Oracle of Delphi to see if he will ever get a son. …show more content…

Percy had gone and consulted with the Oracle telling him “ You shall go west, and face the god who has turned, You shall find what was stolen, and see it safely returned, You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend, And you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end.”( Page 141 Book) On his journey, he began to go west and faced Ares the god that turned on them. Then he found the Master Bolt in his backpack, which he safely returned it to Zeus. He was betrayed by Luke, who he called his friend. In the end, Percy failed to save his mother because he allowed her to save herself. Everything in what the Oracle had foretold came true, but it was the choices he made that made it come true. Kronos had the plan to steal the Master Bolt and had it all figured out, in addition to Ares joining. Moreover, Luke had given Percy his winged shoes which were cursed, and a backpack which Ares messed with already. When Percy gets to the Underworld, the winged shoes were supposed to drag Percy and the Master Bolt down the whole of Tartarus where Kronos could get a hold of the Master Bolt. Although the plan was that, but in the end Percy gave the shoes to Gover, so he was the one that got dragged, but was pulled back by his friends.
