Contemporary sculpture was brought into the art world during the 1800’s by French artist, Auguste Rodin.
Rodin worked with bronze and marble. Bronze was most commonly used during both the Renaissance and Contemporary periods, it is well like for it’s easy use, shiny finish, and quick dry.
Dante’s Inferno, The Thinker, and The Gates of Hell, are some of Rodin’s best and most well known pieces of work.
The use of mythology and allegory were very common in this type of art. Contemporary art is still found today, it is very popular in sculpture, painting, and photography.
This type of art consists of large works of art, primarily having only one color or subject, and tends to stay with the time.

This was known as the Renaissance period founded by Italian artist, Lorenzo Ghiberti. The 18th’s century art included a variety of sculptures, paintings, and later inventions.
Michelangelo --famous renaissance artist and sculptor-- paintings were found in the 19-20th century dating his signature on original canvases. Only then, did Michelangelo get the fame and fortune he deserved when alive. The Madonna and Child, --one of renaissance’s finest pieces-- is by sculptor, Michelangelo. Both Ghiberti and Michelangelo used bronze [favorited for molding and finish], and gold [favored for its highly valuable texture]. Florence, Northern Italy, and Rome were the most influential of countries around that period. Ghiberti used The Bible [New and Old Testament] for inspiration. Renaissance revolves around many different religions i.e. Christianity, i.e. Catholicism.
This type of art consists of large scale works of either architecture, sculpture or stain glass [commonly found in churches].
