The qualities of the three Monsters in the novel Beowulf, Grendel, Grendel’s Mother and the Dragon are that they all share almost the same image that people would put them or describe them as being. The reason for Grendel and his mother having human qualities are as mentioned in the poem. Grendel is a descendant of the biblical Cain so that means that he shares a common side or connection with human beings. In the poem Grendel also have rational thoughts as well as outbursts of emotions. He gets angry at happiness or when people are having too much fun and making noise. Even though his anger is taken to a not human-like level he portrays violence towards people and then is considered a danger / the enemy. In Beowulf he seems as the people he observes. Their homes say that they are not human species and they are a threat to Beowulf and Hrothgars people. In the sense of them being monsters Grendel and Grendel’s Mother living in a cave underground with firesnakes and to how Grendel and Grendel’s mothers lifestyle is they are way different from how Beowulf is living and how Beowulf sees them, Grendel was not grown up by the outside universe as to Beowulf he lived in a home like normal people. Grendel was raised in the underworld where not much happened so he was miserable and unhappy also to why he would get angry when King Hrothgar had parties so at night Grendel would come out up from his home and destroy everything he sees with no need of weapons but just his bare arms. Grendel is the total representation of what a warrior should not be or function as. From his actions Beowulf saw him as a threat and that so leads to why he went to Grendel's mother and invaded her home like her son did with King Hrothgar and to why Grendels arm was wripped off by Beowulf.
