Wes Moore’s Opposite end of The Spectrum Bad choices… Prison… Good choices… Success. These are two completely different ends of life and they can both be talked about by Wes Moore, and the other Wes Moore. Both of these people grew up in West Baltimore a few blocks from each other not even knowing it. Both have siblings and had a rough start in their educations. Wes Moore ends up going to Military school, making good choices and works in the White House, while the other Wes Moore did not make the Best choices and ended up with life in prison due to the murder of a police officer. Wes went to a private school and he did not have that much money for supplies and other things, which caused him to be made fun of by the children at his school. Wes was made fun of by his friends that went to public schools due to the fact that he went to a private school, making Wes not feel welcome “Wes had no intention of going to school.” (59). The other Wes Moore went to a Baltimore public school and did not have a good influence to motivate him for school, with his older brother involved in drug and gang activities. Both Wes Moores went on in life with Wes Moore going to Military school and becoming refined, while the other Wes Moore did not finish high school but eventually received his GED “He completed the coursework and received his GED a month later. He was already reading at the level of a sophmore in college.”
Therefore, one of the two Wes Moores became a prisoner, convicted for robbery and murder. And the other one is Rhodes scholar and become a famous author. Even though they grew up in the same environment, but there is a big difference: the author Wes’s parents graduated from college and well educated, while the other Wes’s parents even didn’t finish school. So, according to the book, the most significant effect in the two Wes Moores lives is the education level of their parents.

Having to equip himself for day to day life built the base for Wes to experiment with the drug trade and, eventually, got him arrested multiple times.
