The Nationalism and decolonization movements happened between 1920 and 1960 in Africa and Asia. Ghana which was colonized by British in 1874, and gained their independence in 1960, Kenya was colonized by the British in 1895 gained independence in 1964, Nigeria was colonized by the British, and gained their independence in 1960, finally South Africa which was colonized 1854 gained their independence 1960, but later got controlled by white Afrikaners until 1994. Countries in Asia that were India colonized by the British until 1947, and Vietnam was colonized by France in 1887 and controlled by the Japanese during World War II, and gained their independence in 1954. Britain controlled Ghana, the rights the natives didn’t have were not being able to vote and control their own selves. An example of the non-violent can be found in document #3. The document is written by Kwame Nkrumah, who was leader of the colonial gold coast, In Ghana 1949. The document was for members of the convention people's party to declare independence. Kwame Nkrumah wanted to control themselves because they are strong enough to govern themselves. The positive action campaign was made to fight imperialism through non violence. This was successful because no one was hurt, but still got to do what they wanted to accomplish, which was being able to gain their own government and independence. To conclude, Non-Violent actions examples all explain how countries wanted to gain their own independence and government by having things like protests and walkouts that didn’t involve violence. Militant action shows examples that explain things like fighting for their right towards freedom and independence by including violence. It's important to discuss the success rate of different actions taken during nationalism and decolonization because many people did different things to see right be done along with changes with their lives.
