Sexism or gender discrimination, as many have begun to call it, is known to be a form of prejudice based on the ideology of one gender/sex being superior to the other, restraining what men and boys are “allowed to do” and what women and girls “are allowed to do”, however, it is more often affecting the later sex. This is due to women being seen of as the weaker sex and less capable than men, especially in the realm of logic and rational reasoning only able to nurture and care.This can be furthered to a more extreme hatred or distrust of women called misogyny. WIth a counterpart for sexism there is also one for misogyny, of which is called misandry, a deep hatred or distrust of men. However, most comments, actions and public displays made, are targeted towards women. This can be seen at both a personal (micro) level but also at an institutional (macro) level. An example of this is if a woman were raped (individual/personal) and were then told by the judge and/or jury (institutional) they were responsible or culpable for what had happened due to the way she dressed (provocatively). Most stated that it was still domestic violence no matter the gender and that because it is a known issue of women being beaten in a relationship and not men people are categorizing and not really getting to the heart of the problem as males are still vulnerable.

Sexism is also very prominent in India going from health, education to the economic and political inequalities between men and women. These women have to travel miles sometimes just to get drinking water, they have to jeopardize their lungs to put a basic meal together and have no maternity leave or childcare. The world in which these women live, and everything they do, is indeed achieved 'despite being a woman'.
