In our own journeys some of us know how to make decisions on our own, but some people depend on other to make their decisions for them. Making our decisions makes us transform into having a different personality for the better because it means you have potential in being independent. Along the same lines, the novel The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, is a story that is taking place in Andalusia where a young man named Santiago, a shepherd, who travels to reach his Personal Legend. He is a very hardworking person, responsible, and he’s also very determined to do anything he would like to achieve. One main similarity that Santiago and Wopper were that they both went on their own journey and had many different experiences that were stressful for both characters. They were alone in their journey to no one to talk too, yet Santiago and Wopper both had guides that help them keeping progressing on their Personal Legend. Santiago had a man named Melchizedek who helped him to have faith in himself and make Santiago keep traveling to his Personal Legend. Wopper’s guide was a woman named Mija, a woman who took care of his dad 's land in Mexico, who guide Wopper to reach his Personal Legend. At some point in the novels, both characters eventually stepped out from their comfort zone and became more matured. Both characters stepping out of their comfort zone were able to become leaders in their lives. And as becoming leaders both, Santiago and Wopper, learned new lessons that would help them in their lives. Santiago and Wopper learning lessons made them transform into a better person. The transformation on these both characters is that, they eventually change personalities for better and become more responsible and more intelligent to their decisions. I truely believe that the choices we make create our future. Our destiny is not set in stone, but it is out choice that make then into monuments.

Santiago is a heroic figure because he was always kind to others. He was always helping someone with something. For example: when Santiago was working at the Crystal shop, he helped the Crystal Merchant, improve his business. When Santiago was leaving the Crystal Shop, the merchant stated “You brought a new feeling into my Crystal Shop”(61). The Crystal Merchant is talking about how much Santiago has changed his business. Santiago has helped the merchant’s business by making a display case to put outside the store, cleaning all the crystal and adding new things, such as the tea. The Theme of “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho is, always follow your dreams and listen to your heart. At the start of the novel Santiago does not know what he should do when he is confronted by his dream. But by the end of the novel Santiago completely trusts his heart to guide him though life.
