Renaissance and Baroque are the two periods, which are similar yet distinctively different. Renaissance is the rebirth of the ancient world, and the Baroque is the art of the Counter-Reformation. The Renaissance covers the period from15th to 17th century, and the Baroque era follows up from 1500s to 1750s. The two eras have some common similarities and also differences in style in art.
The Renaissance era is one of the most important periods in Europe’s history with many wonderful works of art at all time and also the advancement of music. The focus is on man, “man is the measure of all things,” and with religious themes and naturalism. The Baroque era is focus more on landscapes, scenes of everyday life, and lean more toward individualism. …show more content…

Leonardo Da Vinci was referred as the “four-square man” by the Italians (Cunningham & Reich p 390.) He created many memorable Renaissance paintings that are still famous today. One of his masterpieces is The Last Supper (1495,), which is a fresco painting. He used one-point linear perspective and atmospheric perspective to portrait the dining hall of a Milan monastery. The vanishing point is at the head of Jesus, whom sitting at the center of the painting. Behind him, there is triple window that represents the Holy Trinity. Looking at the painting, we can see the story behind it. There are three groups of people divided, which leaning away from Jesus. Within a group of people, on a big dinning table, but we can feel his loneliness. It also seems like the people around him might betray him. The Last Supper is one of the greatest works of Leonardo Da Vinci.
