People today often find difficulty in deciding whether to purchase a desktop computer or a laptop. The two types of computers may seem very similar, but there are many major differences between them. As most people know, a desktop computer is hard to move and is cluttered with many wires and cables that need to be connected to one another. The speakers, keyboard, and mouse for a laptop are all built-in so it does not contain visible wires. To many, it is quite annoying to see so many wires and cables in a desktop computer. The desktop computer is capable of having better components that can handle better graphics and programs that are more stressful on the system. Desktops are suitable for more demanding gaming. All the components of a computer are much more suited towards the desktop computer than a laptop. On the other hand, a laptop’s potential is limited. Even though they can handle some computer games, laptops cannot handle hardcore games which have been newly released. This is due to their extensive use of RAM and more detailed graphics that are used. A desktop computer is easy to customize. What brand or how powerful each component is can be easily chosen and decided on to fit any necessities. On the other hand, a laptop is always sold as a whole. It is also difficult to upgrade. To upgrade the hard drive, a USB port is necessary, along with an annoying thumbdrive or wire sticking outside of the laptop to lead to a larger storage drive that, most of the time, will be in the way. If a laptop is damaged, it will need to replaced as a whole, however, if a desktop computer gets damaged the parts of it that have been damaged can just be repaired or replaced. Another factor in choosing between a laptop and a desktop is its cost. A desktop computer’s price is cheaper than a laptop because it can be more powerful than a laptop, given a price of purchasing new components such as graphics cards, processors, and extra RAM, or random access memory. The only downside in purchasing a desktop computer is that it consumes more energy than a laptop because it has many components. The problem in a laptop is that it can be stolen easily.
