No matter what situation people are in or century, it’s acceptable for any man to harass a woman! When it comes to the movie North Country and the book Women & Work, both talk about women having to deal with sexual harassment. Another topic that they have in common, is discrimination against women in the work field. Women have gone through different kind of discrimination for long time now because of their gender and men believing women are a sexual object that they can harass whenever they want but also, get them out of the work field where they believe only men should be working at. Mr. Pearson said “Well, then I suggest you spend less time stirring up your female co-workers and less time in the beds of your married male co-workers and more time trying to find ways to improve your job performance.” (North Country) The comment by Mr. Pearson was a comment that offended Josey because it was made by what the manager said about Josey. Mr. Pearson should have heard what Josey had to say about her issue and then she could have said what he needed to say. But the fact that he did not hear her side, says how he is discriminating her for being a women. He did not want to hear what Josey had to say and did not give her a chance to defend herself and he was quick to judge her. The comment came from what he heard from the manager which means that Mr. Pearson does not know exactly what happened and neither did he hear it from both sides of the story. It was discrimination towards Josey as a women because he brought up a comment that he does not know if it’s really happening but even if it’s something that does happen, it’s Josey’s personal life and does not have to do with her
