Compare and Contrast Essay During these films I had many thoughts over the message and main points that both Al Gore and Michael Moore presented. In “Bowling for Columbine” by Michael Moore there were many fallacies throughout his documentary. Al Gore explained and supported his main point with many facts and scientific evidence that convinced me in supporting his message he was trying to get across. Michael Moore’s documentary focused on the shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. Michael Moore searched for the answers as to why the two students decided to enter the school and shoot at the students. Al Gore talks about global warming and how it is becoming a big issue not just nationwide but international. What persuaded me were all the facts that were used which had mixed reasons that directly supported his argument that something needs to be done to help save the earth in which we live in. He explains that before we were not very sure if this global warming was true or not. We experienced appeal to ignorance before by thinking that global warming was not true because it was not proven to be true. Now with all scientific facts and experience such as rising water from melted ice caps we now realize the reality that global warming is real. During Al Gore’s visual of the polar bear being forced into the water due to broken ice I feel as if appeal to pity for the polar bear was used to try and convince the audience of his argument. Al Gore uses chained arguments with the incident of Hurricane Katrina that formed over Florida. He explained that global warming caused the water in the gulf to warm up and as the water temperature increases, the wind velocity increased and moisture increased. After Katrina formed over Florida, it passed over the gulf and picked up the energy from the warm temperature, increased wind velocity and humidity which then caused a catastrophic disaster to hit New
