In the world we live in today, our life requires us to be active and most of the time we are very busy. For a while now the big controversy is are you choosing bottled water or tap water? There are many debates over the topic, however, most people would say that they chose bottled water because due to the fact that it is more adapted to our up-tempo lifestyles. Yes, there will be people who can say “you can carry tap water with you wherever you go too!” but there are various ways that bottled water is preferred over tap. People are drawn to bottled water more than just drinking tap because it is more cost efficient and bottled water companies also allow people to have jobs to support themselves. People against bottled water would complain …show more content…
“A two-year long test was conducted in 42 states and 141 unregulated chemicals were found in the water, 260 contaminants altogether” (Tap Water in 42 States). Another argument people who support bottled water could say would be that, “bottled water only accounts for less than one hundredth of one percent of all the world’s water consumption, so if BW companies shut down the world wouldn’t be really affected because it is rare it ever gets contaminated” (Fager, 2). Mainly the argument is that bottled water is preferred over tap because people are scared of what they are drinking and what's going into their bodies and would rather drink bottled water because they know it is safer than …show more content…
Tap water supporters can argue that even though tap water can get contaminated it is tested way more than bottled water is. According to Standage, “New York City tap water was tested 430,600 times in 2004 alone” (2). Another argument against bottled water could be that tap water is free. Tap water is free, but bottled water supporters will say it's only 10 cents a bottle, (but C’mon it's free!) The main argument people say tap water is better because tap water is way more useful in our daily lives, we can use it to cook, bathe, wash our cars, and fill our pools. However, there are many more downsides to tap than there are good. There are many more cases of tap water being contaminated than there have been of bottled water proving that bottled water much safer to drink. Also to say tap water is free, take into account that most people who rent or own homes have to pay a water bill. “Even a public water fountain is not dispensing “free” water – someone is paying to maintain it” (Water Is Not “Free”). Using water to wash cars, bathe, and cook all make the water bill higher making tap water way more expensive than BW.
Therefore to most people, bottled water will always be the way to go. Bottled water is less expensive, way more adjusted and suit to our active lifestyles, and continue to be the best water resource to go to during disasters and emergencies. What side will you take in the never ending debate between tap and
Americans use a lot of water, in fact the average American uses 90 gallons a day. (SF) Then it is not too surprising to learn America also has one the cleanest water reserves in the world. (CDC) A surprising statistic, however, is one-third of the American population drinks bottled water on a regular basis, when the majority have clean drinking water at home. (NRDC) This might be because the bottled water industry has promoted itself as a healthier and more portable alternative to tap water. However is it really any safer or better than tap water, or is it only a misleading and expensive gimmick to bring in money for large companies?
Thesis Statement: The purchase of bottled water may be completely unnecessary as tap water in most municipalities of the United States is safe to drink. The limit of purchase of bottled water, would not only save consumers money but limit the amount of non-renewable resources spent in making and transporting the bottles, and therefore limit their negative impact on our environment. When reading through the list of options for our essay topic, I was interested by the impact of bottled water as I am a regular consumer of the product and rarely ever think of it's environmental impact. Therefore, I was intrigued to see what statistic showed, and what the different points of view were in regards to the product.
I purchase and drink from bottle water primarily for convenience purposes. It is easy to travel with, provide for others, take for an activity, and purchase from any location or vending machine. However, when investigating tap water versus bottled water, the environmental impact and hidden truths are alarming.
the sophisticated and the health conscious. But, is bottled water better then tap? I believe tap
Do you prefer drinking bottled water or tap water? I would prefer bottled and here is why. Tap water isn't really the same as bottled water. If you really pay attention to it, you can tell that there's a difference in the taste of it too. I hate tap water and here's why.Tap water and bottled water are very different. Like I said before, they even taste different. In source 1 it says that bottled water doesn't chave chlorine in it while tap water does. Also it says, "Water from natural springs ot public sources goes through a purification process and is then bottled and distributed to retail stores." for bottled water and for tap water it says "Water is delivered through a system of pipes, pumps and purification system to homes and buildings
We’ve all bought a 16.9 ounce bottle of water at the local store, but what is the impact of that purchase? The three main reasons people purchase bottled water are because it’s healthy, convenient, and tastes good. However, the same bottle of water can also be a waste of resources, harmful to the environment, and come from the same source as municipal water. Bottled water is an unnecessary indulgence that has a detrimental impact on the environment and society’s health.
The cost involved in water bottles is inconceivable to many. Bottled water costs 240 to 100,000 times more than tap water, which can be brought to your house for just pennies per day; based on city water usage, 4,787 bottled waters could be filled with tap water for $2.10, if each bottled water costs one dollar, you would pay 2,279 times more than if a single bottle is refilled. If tap water cost as much as bottled water, a monthly water bill would be around nine thousand dollars. By virtue of this, society is unaware of the fact that by replacing water bottles with tap water, many countries with economical dilemmas could be less strained.
Bottled water can cause some serious health problems. Most people think what can a bottled water do to our health?. In the article, “Your plastic water bottle may actually be making you gain weight” Lizzy Hill explained that many of the plastic used to make plastic bottles may contain compounds called bisphenol A (BPA). A chemical compound has been shown to promote the formation and growth of fat cells. In one study, scientists extracted and isolated cells from the hips, thighs or abdomen of female volunteers. Then, these cells were exposed to BPA for about 2 weeks. The results show that they have a significant increase in fat compared to other cells. (Hill 2016). Consumers chose bottled water for their top diet. But they don’t know bottled
According to the “Competition in the Bottled Water Industry in 2006 Case,” bottled water industry became the one of the world’s most attractive beverage categories, as more and more people began to focus on health and fitness. Consumers start realizing the need of proper hydration, and they began purchasing bottled water instead of drinking tap water, because they were worried about safety of tap water, which tasted like chemicals. Actually, tap water contained chemicals, such as chlorine and fluoride, which are harmful for human body; however, this problem was solved when the bottled water was brought to the market. Due to bottled water’s convenience, purity, and portability, and safety, bottled water industry began to rise rapidly. During
Not all water is created equal. There is much debate as to if water should come from a tap or if it should come from a bottle. Many believe that bottled water is a worse option than tap water. However, bottled water can provide many benefits that tap water lacks. Bottled water is better suited for disasters, it can reach underdeveloped countries, and it even provides jobs for many individuals. Conversely, there are people who believe that bottled water contributes to environmental pollution, but despite this, bottled water can do more good than harm.
Many people have strong opinions about bottled water. Often people find themselves so bound to their chosen side of the argument that they can see no middle ground. In the end, water is water and the real difference between the two is the container it comes in. By forgoing a superfluous plastic shell, tap water is able to be environmentally friendly and helps to conserve the planets limited resources. Tap water's many benefits raise the cost of using bottled water higher society than can afford.
You 've probably heard a lot about bottled water. That it 's healthier for you than tap water, that it can replace your vitamins, that it 's really only tap water and how environmentally unfriendly it is. We know which is better for the environment. That 's easy. Not only are millions of tons of plastic bottles clogging our landfills, but it takes 1.63 liters of water to make every liter of Dasani. But despite those harsh realities, public concerns about tap-water quality have caused bottled water sales to soar over the past couple of decades. With this type of conflicting information about water, it 's easy to get confused. Let 's see if we can help you cut through the clutter and lead you down the path to healthier water consumption.
Some people may think that bottled water just goes through filters that get rid of the chemicals that are contained within it, and while they are not wrong they are, however, still uniformed. Bottled water is not only taken from streams and filter but “40% of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources [a.k.a tap water]” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014. Para. 9). People drink bottled water so that they do not have to drink tap water when in reality they most likely are drinking some tap water that is mixed into their bottled water. On top of that not only has the bottled water been filtered but it has been found that “22% of tested bottled water brands contained chemical contaminants at levels above strict state health” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014. Para. 9). In other words, though the water may not have the same weird taste as tap water is does have chemicals in it that are at levels that are not safe to be consuming. When it comes to tap water which contains normal amounts of chemicals, bottled water is not safer to be
Bottled water is everywhere. It can be purchased wherever you go. But water also comes out of the tap. What’s the difference? Is there really a problem with drinking tap water in the United States? Water is necessary for hydration, and it helps with your body’s chemical and physical processes. In order for your body to remain functional and healthy, drinking water daily should be a priority. Although you may think all water is just water, there are different types. But which is better, tap or bottled water? Tap and bottled water are ultimately very similar and one is not better than the other. Throughout my argument, I will be explaining how they both go through many safety processes, the fact that
