In act 2, scene 3 Mama is disappointed and mad at Walter because he loses the money that was made out of his father's flesh. 1. Walter - His dreams of owning a licquor store conflict religiously with Mama's value system. The conflict between Mama and Walter is amplified by the fact that it is Mama's apartment in which the family lives and Walter is unable/unwilling to make decisions because Mama is so domineering. Ironically, it is the one decision that she eventually lets Walter make which nearly destroys the family.

Beneatha also subconsciously deals with the dysfunctional relationship with her brother. She desires to have her brother’s support for her dream of becoming a doctor, yet Walter tends to taunt her aspiration and condemns her for having such a selfish dream. Mama as the head of the family is heartbroken by the juvenile hostility of her adult children, so in hopes to keep her family together she makes the brave move of purchasing a house. Living in a society where the fulfillment of dreams is based upon material wealth, the Younger family strives to overcome their hardships as they search for happiness. As money has never been a way of life for the family, the insurance check's arrival brings each person to see the chance that their own dreams can become reality. Whether in taking a risk through buying a "little liquor store" as Walter wishes to do or in -"[wanting] to cure" as Beneatha dreams, the desires of the family depend upon the fate of Mama's check. In the mind of Walter Lee Younger, the check is the pinnacle of all, dominating his thoughts, as he does not wait a second before "asking about money "without" a Christian greeting." He cannot see beyond the fact that he "[wants] so many things" and that only their recently acquired money can bring them about. The idea of money and being able to hold it "in [his] hands" blinds him from the evils of society, as he cannot see that the Willy Harris's of the world will steal a person's "life" without a word to anyone. When money becomes nothing but an illusion, Walter is forced to rethink his values and his family's future, realizing that there is more to living that possessing material riches.

Her faith is tested when she turns over the left over money to Walter. At first, Mama’s trust is unwise when Walter loses all the money. However, Mama says, “He finally come into his manhood today, didn’t he? Kind of like a rainbow after the rain…” (Hansberry 151). This shows that her faith is recovered when Walter refused the offer given by Mr. Lindner.
Most of Walter’s arguments with his family have been about the $10,000 check. Walter wanted the money to start a liquor store business with his friends Bobo and Willy Harris. He argued with Beneatha about her wanting to become a doctor. He said to her, “Have we figured out yet just how much medical school is going to cost?” He thinks that she shouldn’t pursue being a doctor because the money is going to come out of the insurance check and he wants all of the money for himself. He also argued with Mama about what she should do with her money. Walter said, “Mama, you didn’t go do something with that insurance money, something crazy?” He didn’t want her to spend the money for what she wanted because he wanted the money for himself. Later, when she says that she bought a house, he flipped out. He said, “So that’s the peace and comfort you went out and brought for us today!” Walter thinks that the world revolves aroun him and that everyone should follow his lead because he knows what’s best. He thinks that Mama will just give him the money because he deserves it and no one else does. He said, “Mama-look. Old Willy Harris put everything on paper-.” He thinks that he is entitled to it and whatever he wants should go because he is top dog.
The conflict that involves Walter and Mama superficially concerns Mama's receiving an insurance check for ten thousand dollars, which she hasn't yet decided what to do with. Walter has hopes for using the money to invest in a liquor store, with the profits providing him and his family a better quality of life than what they have endured in the past. What really is at stake here, though, is more than money. Mama and Walter have different visions of what happiness is and what life is all about. Even in today?s world, children are very susceptible. Walter displays a selfless characteristic which becomes overshadowed by unwise decisions later in the play. In one particular scene, his son Travis asked both parents for money. Walter acts out of pride by giving Travis his last pocket change. This symbolizes Walter's willingness to be a moral father.
In the play,”Hamlet, Act 3 scene 1” the target audiences between both plays were to a wide variety of people. Back when Hamlet was first written, it was made to be viewed by a wide variety of audiences. Typically during the renaissance era, plays were made more common to the lower part of society; this being why Hamlet was written. Although both plays are to the same audience, the first one is more distinct into who it wants viewed. It had elegance, and was more formal and professional. You could see in the audience people were wearing suits a formal attire. As to the second one, it was smaller scale, and the audience had people in shorts and sweats.
Lena Younger, also known as Mama, feels unhappy about the check, because: her family is acting like it is extremely important, her family is quarreling over the it, and it reminds her of her late husband. First of all, Mama does not feel that money is the most important thing in the world. She has a large generation gap with her children, because she lived in a time where segregation was still very prevalent.
