Americans spend more than 90% of their time indoors. Since Americans are indoors for more than 90% of their times, lighting should be a concern. 20% of the electric bill, which comes at the end of each month, has to deal with lighting. Humans are always trying to buy new things and try new things that will save them money is energy efficient. However, Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) fulfill these needs. LED bulbs have revolutionized and made life much easier. LEDs are light bulbs which is built different than any other bulbs. “LED bulbs are tiny semiconductors that are encapsulated in plastic, the plastic protects the components and help focus the lights”. LEDs do not have a filament like most incandescent bulb. They have 2 terminals in which electricity travels through.(‘"LED Faqs" ) Compact Fluorescent Lights also known as CFL bulb and incandescent light are built much more easier than the LED bulbs. An Incandescent light is a normal light bulb humans have been using for the past 50 years. CFL bulbs are made up They are made from two main parts, which include a simple glass tube and a electric ballast. The inside of the tube is coated with phosphorus. Incandescent bulbs have a very simple structure. At the base, they have two metal contacts, which connect to the ends of an electrical circuit. The metal contacts are attached to two stiff wires, which are attached to a thin metal filament which is housed in a glass bulb.(“Learn about CFLs”) LED bulbs produce energy differently than a CFL or an incandescent bulb. LEDs are tiny semiconductor illumination fixtures. Electricity travels through the 2 terminals of the component which conducts electricity in one direction. With the electrical current,... ... middle of paper ... ...well into the earth and the environment. Although the mercury within CFL light is harmful and dangerous to humans and the environment, the mercury helps make the CFL more energy efficient. (“How Stuff Works, CFL”) LED lights have revolutionized and made life much easier since it was invented. LED lights last on average of 50,000 hours which is up to 6 times longer than a CFL and way more than an incandescent light. LED lights are beginning to make a widespread around the world. LEDs emit light through a diode when electrical current from the 2 terminals feed it. CFL lights work through chemical reaction once it gets fed with power through the 2 terminals. Incandescent lights work through a wire filament which produces heat which is light. There are many benefits of using LEDs, for example, since LEDs are energy efficient they save a lot of money for the customer.
