Community service in Massachusetts should not be required to graduate and get into college. I believe that students should be able to graduate from high school without performing community service because students have other classwork and out of school activities, it takes away from the true purpose of community service, and most students won’t do it because they are made to. Ridding of community service would be most beneficial to the students, their already busy schedules, and the community. It is true, community service is an opportunity to interact with your community and help out people who can’t help themselves. When they get to school, they go to five different academic classes and whatever electives they take. The average school day is about six hours and forty five minutes in length. After school, there is the possibilities of homework, extracurricular activities, and sports. After a full day, there is virtually little to no time for other work. I would know because that is how most of my days usually go. Who would want to do something after all of that? I know that not everyone has a schedule such as this one. I still believe that these people are wrong in their beliefs because of my valid arguments against their rebuttals. For their concessions, I have a response in order to shut down that theory and have a remark on why community service should not be required to graduate. For example, if one were to argue that community service helps engage a student with its community, I would say “Yes, that is true”. But, it does not mean that it should be a requirement against students to graduate. If the students want to, they will find a way to do
