A community assessment is “an effort to identify and prioritize a community’s health needs, accompanied by collecting and analyzing data, including input from the community” (Clark, 2015, p.357). Community assessments are important in planning to improve and promote health in the community. This community assessment focuses on the community of Lake Andes, South Dakota. Just a little bit about Lake Andes first to get a picture of the community. Lake Andes is home to 879 people. It is located in the southeast corner of South Dakota, on the Yankton Sioux Reservation. Lake Andes residents consist of two predominant races, White and American Indian. There is a total of 463 residents of the American Indian race and 359 residents of the White race. …show more content…

A windshield survey is “an informal means of collecting population assessment data by driving through an area and observing its visible features” (Clark, 2015, p.359). To address the physical environment, some of the things that look well in the community would be that most of the businesses look well kept, and in the summer time, there are lots of trees and grassy areas. One would not say that air quality looks like it would be an issue. The town does not have any factories or anything that looks like it would really pollute the air. One thing that is concerning is the amount of garbage and trash that a person finds laying around town. If a person drives down the road and looks in the ditches along the highway that runs through town, they are just filled with trash that people throw out of their car

Known for being one of the best places in the country to raise kids, Idaho Falls has an increasing number of youth each year. In 2010, nine percent of its population was children under five. And only little over one percent were people over eighty-five. Because Idaho’s harsh winters it weeds out the elderly. Records show temperatures in the dead of winter up to the negatives, explaining why many have left for a more balanced climate. Much is similar to U.S. as a whole. We are still seeing an expanding number of youths than elders. Idaho Falls median age is 31.3 compared to the U.S. as a whole with the median age of 37.2. I believe there is a lower median age fo...
A Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) was conducted in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, with the focus on mainly Dekalb and Fulton Counties. The CHNA was conducted to identify the needs and resources in the community with the input from the community members, key stakeholders, and the public health. The CHNA would be used as a guide for the community in its future community health projects.
For this study ten participants were chosen to complete the study. For this particular study, the participants had to be the eldest and youngest child from the same family. They both also had to be raised in the same household. The pairs were picked at random and then asked to complete the test. There were three males tested and seven females tested.

The Community Themes and Strength Assessment (CRSA) is one of the MAPP assessment process that used to know the important things in a community, the perceived quality of life in a community, and the assets that can be used to improve the community health. This process’s goal is to understand the community health issues, concerns, quality of life, and the community assets’ map (NACCHO, 2016).

Age-structure information about a population can be very helpful in analyzing its potential to persist and grow. By recording data on mortality rates for different age groups, it is possible to construct a survivorship curve for a population.
The entire community plays an essential role in the growth and development of children within our community. As a school leader, building an inclusive school culture that is open and friendly to all stakeholders using a variety of effective methods is crucial. There is no magic formula to incorporating a positive school culture, much depends on the leadership of the campus. The leadership on campus cultivates the climate providing support and respect for everyone invested in the student’s education.
Besides, outcome assessment is a way of oversight that focuses on both short and long-term objectives of the program. The aim is to measures the changes in behaviors, health conditions, and quality of life in the community. Since health promoting officer focus is on health issues such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, seniors in the society, the process of monitoring emphasizes on understanding the changes in the level of awareness, attitudes, skills, knowledge, and behaviors of the affected community or group (Whitty & Littlejohns,
The purpose of this community profile is to discuss a particular health improvement issue within a chosen community. A community can be defined using many different terms. You can belong to a community through religious beliefs. Through shared experiences or interests. You can belong to a political community where all involved share the same political interests. A community can also be defined as ‘a family’ a small village where many have lived most of their lives who share the same desire to belong to that community.
This is a community profile that aims to identify a specific health improvement issue within a local geographically determined community. ‘A community profile is an attempt to describe a particular community or neighbourhood. It uses a variety of different techniques to build up a picture of the community from a number of perspectives’ (Barnardos.org.uk, 2004) including several components of a community such as its demographic characteristics, patterns and trends i.e. its epidemiology in order to make comparisons between different localities to determine areas needful of specific health improvements with the goal of improving local people’s health and reducing health inequalities. A core definition of community as distinguished by Macqueen and Mclellan et al (2001) is ‘a group of people with diverse characteristics who are linked by social ties, share common perspectives, and engage in joint action in geographical locations or settings’.
Community engagement is the active participation of local residents and community groups in the decisions that affect their lives (Herefordshire Council, 2013). Therefore, community engagement should be about engaging in open communication to ensure the council understands the needs of the local community.
St. Paul writes in Philippians 2: 3-4, “Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” As I reflect on the community service that I have done this year, I am understanding more about how important this verse is. In life, success and riches can lead one to value oneself above others and become increasingly selfish. However, this is not the road one should take. God makes it clear in his Word that to whom much is given, much is required. Each man is called to utilize the gifts he has been blessed with, to benefit the lives of those around him. Will Smith once said, “If you're not making
