Business communication is any communication use to build partnership and it protect goodwill for the future. Goodwill is valuable compare to its tangible assets such as a good name and reputation, a fair location, an interesting products and outstanding customer service can ensure earnings to a business. The effective communication is the key strategy and extremely an important part of organizational success. Insensitive messages can eliminate a company’s goodwill whether it automatically to customers, employees or even a business partner. Nowadays, people in the business community are increasingly conscious of the need to use language that identify diversity and does not allude or exclude people on the basis of gender, race, age and people with disability.
Being responsible to individual differences requires people to make a conscious effort in order to make a gender-neutral language. Nonsexist language treats both sexes neutrally. It does not emphasize any particular gender and avoid being offensive. According to the Wisconsin Madison University (1991), A Guide to Bias-Free Communications, gender include human beings in general references by replacing a nonsexist language and phrases for gender biases words. According to the Elizabeth N. (1988), Linguistic Sexism in Business Writing Textbooks, examples of word mankind are refers to all people but this word called a gender biases word because it defines people especially for a man word. There are some recommended sentences to use and substitute this gender-biases word such as human beings, people or even humanity. From this situation, only professional communications can be shape the public image for person with disabilities. They can create the words and image either a straightforward or positive viewed.
In conclusion, there are many of biasness in business communication that happen in daily life. Generally, bias-free language is language that does not discriminate against people on the basis of sex, physical condition, race, age, religion or any other category. It includes all readers and people, helps to sustain goodwill, friendly, and complies with the law. It is also reflect an attitude which is a style of communication that looks things from the audience’s point of view, emphasizing what the audience wants to know and respecting the audience’s intelligence.
