Today’s world is complex and it has been changing in many ways and with globalization these changes are faster and grooving in complexity. Globalization and constant competition for resources along with failed states and climate changes generate conditions for more intensive human migration and also make the contemporary environment more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. They should gain understanding and integration of joint and combined operations that different organizations and nations have different operating practices and principles, different services have developed different culture, vocabulary, and expectation for its members. In multinational operations, among military partners involved from different nations, and also within the U.S civilian departments and agencies, there often exist basic organizational culture and national culture differences and capacities. Those differences vary in structure and function of the military organization, personnel policies, services and programs, doctrine, operational planning, and working parameter. Furthermore, it is very important to understand culture the region’s cultures. Sir, I am honored by the privilege to once again serve in 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT). Over of the last 30 days, I had an opportunity to reconnect, and reflect on the current state of the Brigade. The 4th ABCT has a rich history of success and glory. It is my goal to put in place the systems and practices for this great organization to exceed all past and present accomplishments. As a result of my assessment, I identified three areas of focus that will improve our organization: a unit vision, a change in organizational culture and climate, and building organizational teams. I have no doubt that with the implementation of these three areas of focus, I will be the transformational leader that 4th ABCT needs as we prepare for the upcoming National Training Center (NTC) rotation and tackle the task of the Regionally Aligned Forces (RAF) mission.
By the end of the war, about 5,000 men and 500 women had been charged
Individuals from various cultures can easily distinguish differences in traits by making comparisons to their own. These differences make up the fundamentals of a society’s way of life. The rules that most individuals abide by comprise the framework of a culture. Culture is the shared beliefs and social norms of a country or area that are different from other places. In the country of Iran, an abundance of diversity defines their culture. Using the United States Army’s operations variables, this paper will define the culture of Iran by analyzing the environmental, political, religious, and military operational variables, as well as their military conflicts with the United States.
Armed with numerous studies, and intensive public hearings, Congress mandated far-reaching changes in DOD organization and responsibilities in the Goldwater-Nichols Department of Defense Reorganization Act of 1986. This landmark legislation significantly expanded the authority and responsibility of the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Included in this expanded authority and responsibility was the requirement for the chairman to develop a doctrine for the joint employment of armed forces. As operations Urgent Fury, Just Cause, and Desert Storm have vividly demonstrated, the realities of armed conflict in today's world make the integration of individual service capabilities a matter of success or failure, life or death. Furthermore, the operation Desert One demonstrated the need for a strengthened Joint Warfare Doctrine and the consequent change in Joint Warfare Employment. It is plain to see the benefits of having the greatest navy integrated with the world's greatest army and air force. However, even in the wake of a relatively successful joint operation in the Middle East (Desert Storm), certain weaknesses are evident in the current joint employment tactics and/or capabilities. By analyzing past operations such as Urgent Fury and Desert Storm, we are able to see sufficient evidence that the Joint Warfare Concept can be disastrous in one instance and virtually flawless in another.
Many analysts have indicated that there is an increasing convergence in the different modes of warfare. They suggest that the greatest challenge in the future will not come from a single approach from a state, but state and non-state actors choosing from a variety of tactics and technology. They will also be used independently, or combined in new and innovative ways to create greater complexity. It is this variety of options that enable the threat to switch between and even use concurrently, these techniques and technologies, thus create confusion about where and who the enemy is, and complicate the battlefield with conditions that would not be expected when facing a conventional enemy. Because real world experience shows us that these threats have gone from being distractions in conventional warfare, to taking the centre stage in the contemporary operation environment (COE).
The United States Army consists of soldiers from many diverse cultures. Citizenship is not a requirement to join the Army, so people enlist from across the United States as well as from many countries around the world. The Army has its own unique culture that is a conglomeration of the many cultures that make up its population. Each new soldier is expected to adapt to this new culture and integrate as a member of a larger team. Helping new soldiers make this adaptation as quickly as possible and with few difficulties is a challenge for the leaders of new soldiers throughout the Army.
Eventually, the Iranian government will have to consider separating the political and religious wings, and allow the people of Iran as well as the rest of the world to live life according to that individual?s own beliefs; but until that time the United States? national security is at grave risk to more attacks by this radical nation. Since the fall of the Shah, the Islamic Republic of Iran has isolated itself from the rest of the world, and has proven to be one of the greatest threats to American security through the use of state sponsored terrorism based on religious goals and formed by political movement.
Joint Publication 1(JP 1) define Joint concepts as “examine military problems and propose solutions describing how the joint force, using military art and science, may operate to achieve strategic goals within the context of the anticipated future security environment. Joint concepts lead to military capabilities, both non-materiel and materiel, that significantly improve the ability of the joint force to overcome future challenges.” For future challenges, we can find some clues form the National Military Strategy of USA (NMS2015). The potential challenges include four plus one (Russia, Iran, North Korea and China plus violent extremist organizations (VEOs)) . It is an unprecedented strategic environment which need to fight different type
My last position before coming to DLI was Brigade Commander. Without any doubt was the most rewarding experience in my military career. Because, I had the chance to lead in combat operations one thousand two hundred men divided between officers, Non Commissioned Officers and Soldiers in four battalions and a marine corps detachment. My Brigade is an Air Assault Army Unit which had the main effort against the FARC in the south of my country. However, the daily activities were difficult since I had to be available 24 hours per 7 days in a forward command post far away from my family. The Battalions engaged the enemy often and I had to direct the big maneuver and coordinate the close air support and the medevacs flights. Also the permanent pace
The concept of executing joint operation goes way back to the ancient era, when armies and navies work hand-in-hand during their operations on the coast. Naval vessels were often used for transporting troops during distant expeditions as to increase military operational efficiency. The joint operations involving the Army, Navy and Air Force have the advantages to provide complementary capabilities and offer greater flexibility. Hence, more options can be explored in the deployment of subordinate forces and easier to exploit enemy’s vulnerabilities by deploying different resources depending on the current situation. Due to the ever changing nature of global threats in terms of military context, changes in military organizational structure and
