If you enjoy learning about everything that went on hundreds of years ago in all different places and how it made the present what it is or why people do what they do, I’m sure you will enjoy this essay about Colombia. Important periods in Colombia include ancient history, colonization, and independence. It’s truly fascinating, learning its history will be like listening to an exciting story.

Around 10,500 BCE, the place that is now Colombia was very different than it is now. There were many indian tribes all over the land that were very skilled at making figures out of gold and weaving patterns in cloth. In April of 1536, the Spanish conquistador Ganzalo Jimenez de Quesada led an expedition and called the places he passed as New Kingdom of Granada and in August of 1538 founded a capital for it that he named Santa Fe. (Wikipedia.com, Colombia) In about that same time, a german conquistador by the name of Nikolaus Federmann crossed a large part of Colombia in search of the legendary “El Dorato” or “City of gold”. (Wikipedia.com, Colombia) The people that were there before the Spanish came were suddenly dying off due to the diseases of the Spaniards such as smallpox because they had not built up an immunity to that sickness ever before.
