It has been strongly debated if college should be required or not in the United States, but it should not be required. People want to start in the workforce earlier to get more life experience and because some need money immediately. There are many reasons someone might not be able to go to college, and by making people get a college education, it could be a great burden on them and their families. College should not be required of everyone because there are many well paying jobs that do not require a college education, college is not accessible to all, and the college environment is not for everyone.
There are many well paying jobs that do not require a college education in this day and age. The workforce requires skilled workers that can work with their hands and use real world experience that cannot be found in college. People living in poverty who already have full-time or part-time jobs should not be required to go to college that they would have to pay for. Some families cannot manage the money which they have already, let alone college loans. People with certain living conditions, where they have to take care of children or siblings, would make it hard to go to college. People who have to take care of their family and bring in income are usually working one or more full-time or part-time jobs or staying home to care for siblings and do not have the time or money to go to college. People who have families that have recently received an expensive bill that was not planned, could prevent a younger member of the family from going to school. Even if this student had a full ride scholarship, they would have to stay home to help earn money to bring their family out of debt.
