What I Have Lived For
There are three things which have governed most of my life and decisions: new experiences, adventure, and meaningfulness.
First, I have sought new experiences because it is the teacher of all things. I yearn for the experiences that allow me to meet new people, to travel, to gain more knowledge of the world. I have sought it next because it is what allows me to grow, to build character. Finally, I sought it because it stretches my mind so far that it changes my whole outlook, my whole perspective on life, and that I believe is where the real joy in life comes from.
I crave adventure because of the endless possibilities. We live in a world filled with such beauty and diversity and in order to get the most out of life
People who are open to experience are intellectually curious, open to emotion, sensitive to beauty and willing to try new things. They tend to be, when compared to closed people, more creative and more aware of their feelings. They are also more likely to hold unconventional beliefs.
Herbert Otto, an esteemed author, once wrote, “Change and growth take place when a person has risked themselves and dares to become involved in experimenting with their own life” (Wilderdom: A Project in Natural Living & Transformation). Essentially, Otto is saying that in order to grow as a person and become educated, one must break free from what bring him or her comfort, which allows him or her to be daring and adventurous. Christopher McCandless holds a similar view point on education and experimentation or adventure, which can be seen in Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild. McCandless believes that once people find a way to break free from the default and comfortable setting that so many of us function on, are we able to discover our adventurous
If there is something that can be said about all and every human being, it’s that they always want to know something. They might not all have the same interests, but even so, they are alway thinking to themselves “why this? why that? how does this work? when is this happening?”. Considering how subjective leisure is, it is important that each individual finds what makes him or her happy and satisfies their leisure time. I do a good job of finding those satisfactory opportunities and finding challenging experiences that can end up improving my life, which is part of my leisure success. The foundations of my family and friends I have developed a set of values, goals and objectives that I aim to achieve with my life; within leisure, career, and my lifestyle I hope to have a balanced and successful life. Going on forward, my prescription for happiness will continue to positively influence the way I live my life, all of these aspects will continue to grow and help me over the next decade. My twenties will bring me a handful of new possibilities that I am looking forward to unfolding.
