In life, there are many experiences that one can take part in that will influence them for the rest of their life. Though, in the end none of them are as immensely influential as getting an education. Attending school and being educated are immensely dissimilar. Attending school gives you the opportunity to get an education. However, one can be quite educated and never have attended college and vice versa. To understand this further, we must first define what an education truly means today in our society. It doesn’t always mean that you have a degree to show to an employer, nor does it mean that you have job security. Those are just possible consequences of a getting an education. Life isn’t about the destination, it’s about the journey. Mine has led me across the globe. I experienced the beauty and culture of the different places I visited. Experiencing a holistic and interconnected world that built the foundation on which my passion to witness, as well as understand the elegance of Earth and mankind exists. My passion to unveil the secrets of this World and all its beauty has led me to the sciences, which managed to satiate my thirst for knowledge, momentarily. Instead of feeling confused by the Universe, I felt an overwhelming awe. I had the tools with which I not only can understand the World, but the entirety of the universe, from its colossal galactic clusters down to its complex subatomic particles. This sense of awe further fueled my passion to understand the complexity of the Universe. And thus I went to a university to understand the world better. To get an education, to be enlightened. But what most people don’t realize is that one day you will question your strongest beliefs, and that isn’t a bad thing to do. To be educated means that you are willing and comfortable for your beliefs to be tested, and reformed into something that is more in consonance with your soul. Initially I used to believe going to a college will grant you an education. That professors will be able to generate an empathy and respect inside you for the world. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for many of the students. I saw indifference to the world. Young students aren’t taught what being educated means, and that has led to its degradation. Students mainly attend universities so that they have better job opportunities, not to obtain a rational and informed outlook on the world. What I learned was that universities merely just create the environment in which it’s the most convenient for one to be educated.
