Is drinking coffee good for health?

Thesis Statement: While acknowledging that drinking coffee increases in cardiovascular disease risk factors thereby posing a health threat, this essay aim to argue that coffee is beneficial to one’s health since it helps reduce body weight, prevent several chronic diseases and provide a short-term memory boost.

Coffee is a compound mixture of chemicals that provide noteworthy amounts of chlorogenic acid and caffeine which negatively effects on sleep and anxiety. Some people urged that drinking coffee poses a health threat to people with cardiovascular disease risk, thus jeopardizing one’s health. SM-L Nurminen1, L Niittynen2, R Korpela2 and H Vapaatalo1 (1999) expand on its argument by claiming the relationship of coffee and blood pressure that acute intake of coffee and caffeine increases blood pressure. Report by Higdon& Frei (2007) has shown that coffee consumption may help prevent several chronic diseases, comprising type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinson's disease and liver disease (cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma). Significantly, the researchers have not found any association between coffee consumption and increased cardiovascular disease risk. Nkondjock (2009) also expands on this argument by claiming coffee consumption reducing risk of liver, kidney, and to a lesser extent, premenopausal breast and colorectal cancers and unrelated to prostate, pancreas and ovary cancers. This justification not only suggests that the aforementioned statement about coffee being the culprit of causing harm to disease is invalid, but also prove how coffee help human body to prevent disease thereby getting lower risk to suffer from cancer.
