With all the big decisions like going to college or going to a university, students have to know where to start. Believe it or not, it’s actually really, really easy to begin. Many students find asking questions that would reflect on their skills, likes, dislikes from school counselors, and academic advisor or even a career counselor helps them choose the college major or career. Also, engaging in some self-reflection and asking questions about the past, present and future help when making the decision to become a college student and all the requirements needed to graduate or become certified in a certain field. Furthermost students enter the college with the decision to just get a two year degree, whether it is a Bachelor of Applied Science or Associate of Applied Science Degree. Students with a job already in place, and would like to further their pay, will take a Certificate Program, due to time constraints or maybe that are all that is required in their job. Regardless of the decision the student makes, one thing is clear, knowing what degree or certification program, the student has made a conscious decision and is goal oriented to better themselves with a higher education.
Bachelor of Applied Science Degree is a degree offered by most community colleges as a two-plus-two degree. The undergraduate will take most of the required subjects that are offered by the community college receiving a degree in of Associate of Applied Science, and then transfer to a four year college that will allow you to finish the degree. This degree averages around 120 semester hours and certain college credits hours. ...ount of money. When exiting these programs the student should not have student loans and awful interest rates weighing on the students mind and weighing them down. The student should be already gainfully employed or on their way to becoming employed when preparing to take this program.
The decision on whether to pursue a degree or certificate program can be stress-free. Everyone has a field of interest they feel passionate about. Each person has a different way of learning, and not all students want to attend college for long periods of time, due to time restrictions or cost of college tuitions. Whatever the reason, don’t wait to make the decision to attend college. Realizing your dreams, setting goals and becoming active in the decision making process can make the realization come true. Choosing a career is no small plan, but perseverance will pay off in the end.
