During this act, there are clashing emotions that Juliet feels when Nurse reports Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s punishment. There were both similar and different reactions by both Romeo and Juliet due to Romeos punishment. Juliet was extremely sad and confused due to many reasons and both were very upset about Romeos punishment due to the fact they would not be able to see each other anymore. In an attempt to push away from medieval love conventions and her father's authority, Shakespeare's Juliet asserts sovereignty over her sexuality. She removes it from her father's domain and uses it to capture Romeo's love. Critic Mary Bly argues that sexual puns color Juliet's language. These innuendoes were common in Renaissance literature and would have been recognized by an Elizabethan audience. Arguably, Juliet uses sexual terms when speaking to Romeo in order to make him aware of her sexuality. When he comes to her balcony, she asks him, "What satisfaction canst thou have tonight?" (2.1.167). Bly asserts that "satisfaction in her hands, becomes a demure play on the sating of desire" (108). Following this pun, Juliet proposes marriage. She teases Romeo with sexual thoughts and then stipulates that marriage must precede the consummation of their love. Juliet uses "death" in a similar sense. She asks night to "Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die / Take him and cut him out in little stars" (3.2.21-22). Death holds a double meaning in these lines. It connotes both "ceasing to be and erotic ecstasy" (Bly 98). Based upon this double meaning, one can infer that "she sweetly asks 'civil night' to teach her how to lose the game of love she is about to play for her virginity" (Wells 921). She tells her nurse, "I'll to my wedding bed, / And death, not Romeo, take my maidenhead!" (3.2.136-137). Placing death opposite Romeo highlights the irony of the situation; both death and Romeo should claim her maidenhead together. These sexual puns reveal Juliet's awareness of her sexuality. She entices Romeo, forcing her sexuality to act as emotional currency.
This rash decision also caused Juliet and Romeo pain and disappointment. “When something bad happens to one you love, something bad also happens to you. If a loved one is hurt or disgraced, you are hurt; if something wonderful happens to her, you feel better off. ”(“Love’s Bond”, Robert Nozick) If that is true when loving someone, Romeo evidently made the wrong decision to kill Tybalt.
Romeo senses tensions are high with Tybalt, so he states, “I do protest I never injured thee but love thee better than thou canst devise.” (Lines 65-66 Act Three, Scene One). Romeo is trying to diffuse the situation because he realizes that Tybalt is his love's cousin. Mercutio is surprised by Romeo’s behavior, so he decides to fight Tybalt himself. Mercutio’s decision to fight Tybalt leads to his own death. Romeo is angered by the death of Mercutio and states, “Now, Tybalt, take the “villain" back again/ That late thou gavest me; for Mercutio’s soul.” (Lines 123-124 of Act Three, Scene One). Romeo is indicating that Tybalt is the villain now, because he slayed Mercutio. Romeo forgets about his attempt to befriend the Capulets and slays Tybalt. Romeo, murderer of Tybalt, solely focuses on Juliet and states “Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say “death"/For exile hath more terror in his look.” (Lines 12-13 of Act Three, Scene Three). Love, what a small word for being one of the most powerful and complicated emotion someone can receive. Love grants people an experience of other emotions such as, sadness, happiness, jealousy, hatred and many more. It is because of those characteristics that love creates that make it so difficult to define the emotion in a few words. In the play, “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, defy their parents in hopes of being able to be together and live a happy life. The characters in “Romeo and Juliet” show the characteristics of love through their words and actions throughout the play. The attributes the characters illustrate throughout the play are rage, loyalty, and sorrow.
In the Shakespearean play, Romeo & Juliet, aggression is represented in different ways by the different characters in the play. Tybalt, Romeo, Benvolio, and the others all have their own way of dealing with hate and anger. Some do nothing but hate while others can’t stand to see even the smallest of quarrels take place.
However, due to his intrusion of the Capulet party in act one, scene five, it is Tybalt’s rage that jeopardizes Romeo’s well-being. This shows the intensity of Romeo’s love for Juliet, and how he cares more about seeing her than his own safety. For example, in act five, scene three, Romeo kills himself because he believes that Juliet is dead. Love made Romeo put himself in dangerous situations, and caused Juliet to go against what her parents wanted. This is important to the story because it is Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other that ends the feud.
In the play, Juliet is questioned by the Nurse after Tybalt’s death and replies with this, “Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband.”(III.II.XCVII). Juliet was not bothered by her cousin’s death at all. She was much more worried about Romeo’s punishment for killing Tybalt. A normal reaction to one’s cousin's death would have been sadness, but instead, Juliet was worried about the killer’s punishment which would normally be abnormal, however, she had more interest in her and Romeo’s relationship. Normally this would not have been how she wanted to feel, but her new love made her think irrationally and selfishly. She did not want her new love to end so she chose to take Romeo’s side as she may have felt it would make their love last forever. He was her only love so of course she would not want it to end. One of William Shakespeare's most famous plays is "Romeo and Juliet." I believe the reason for this is its sense of reality and idealism. This paper will present images of human emotions in "Romeo and Juliet," which make this tragedy so believable.
In my essay I will be discussing the many ways in which Shakespeare causes us to feel sympathy towards Romeo and Juliet in the final scene of the play, after a brief summary of the events previous. In the beginning, Romeo and Juliet meet each other for the first time at a party. They fall in love and eventually decide to get married. As a result of Romeo killing Tybalt for revenge, he is banished from Verona. Juliet is being forced to marry Count Paris. A plan comes about that Juliet is to be drugged which would cause her to appear dead and therefore preventing her from having to marry Paris. However Romeo fails to receive the details of the plan and thinks that she is dead. He therefore returns to Verona to pay his last respects and end his own life. This brings us to the final scene of the play.
As already shown, both Romeo and Juliet are horrified to discover that they were family enemies. Despite of this, they both choose to devote their love for eachother. Given this point, it is unrequited love that brings Romeo and Juliet together. But this also means that they would have to get over the fact that their families hate each other. This eventually leads them to forgiving the rival family for all the hateful acts that have occurred against one another. This is not the only forgiveness that is experienced in this play. Tybalt is a Montague with a fiery attitude. After catching Romeo at a party he was not supposed to be at, Tybalt had it out for Romeo. Just after Romeo and Juliet’s wedding, Tybalt comes looking for him wanting to fight. Romeo does not want to fight because he now loves Tybalt since he is family to him, but neither Tybalt or anyone else knows this reason. Quickly Mercutio steps in and tells Tybalt that he will fight him in honour of Romeo. Sadly this leads to the death of Mercutio. Romeo is angry and in need of revenge, which creates an intense fight between Tybalt and Romeo. Romeo wins this battle, killing Tybalt. He leaves in a hurry, only to discover that he would be banished from Verona. The death of Tybalt is absolutely devastating to Juliet. Her cousin was murdered by her husband. But she did not hesitate to forgive Romeo, she did so right away. She knew that Romeo had a reason for this incident and decides to

Beginning in 3.2, the nurse cries, “he’s dead!” multiple times to Juliet without stating who is actually dead. Even though the reader knows that it is Tybalt who is dead, Juliet does not. She wonders with dismay, “Hath Romeo slain himself?” (3.2 45) This quote twists around the story, and makes one think about how Juliet will take the false news, along with when she will find out the truth. Furthermore, Capulet decides that Juliet will marry Paris after finding out that Tybalt was killed. He thinks that it will help take Juliet’s mind off of her misery. Capulet delightfully announces, “Thursday, tell her, / She shall be married to this noble earl.” 3.4 20-21) The audience knows that Juliet is already married to Romeo, unlike Capulet. The reader is left wondering when Capulet will find out, as well as how and if Juliet will get herself out of the problem. A few days later in Mantua, Romeo asks his servant, Balthasar, how Juliet is doing back in Verona. Balthasar informs that “Her body sleeps in Capel’s monument / And her immortal part with the angels lives. (5.1 18-19) The reader knows that Juliet has taken a potion to make her appear dead as part of her plan to escape with Romeo. However, both Balthasar and Romeo assume that she is dead. To start off, the Nurse tends to explain things in very confusing ways, this makes what she is saying hard to comprehend. When she comes back with the news Juliet asked for she says, “Ah weraday, he’s dead, he’s gone, he’s dead! We are undone, lady, we are undone. Alack the day, he’s gone, he’s killed, he’s dead” (3.2.37-39) Juliet asks the nurse what she has found out and she is saying how someone is dead, Juliet assumes it Romeo of course, so Juliet is now thinking Romeo is dead instead of Tybalt. This instance of miscommunication caused Juliet to become very upset until it she later finds out that Romeo is banished, not dead. Going on, when Juliet’s marriage to Paris was moved up a day, not everyone was informed of it, this causing the letter to not come to Romeo in time for him to save Juliet since she is to be dead when Romeo arrives. Friar John whom was supposed to deliver Friar Lawrence’s letters to Romeo says, “I could not send it- here it is again- nor get a messenger to bring it thee, so fearful were they of infection” (5.3.14-16). Since Friar John was unable to get these letters delivered that Romeo was suspecting, he is now worried, clueless, and uninformed of what is happening.
