The civil war happened because of slavery but thats not the only reason. America was on the road to war. (Crash Course #18) After Lincoln became the president, Southerners felt they had no power political system that was controlled by voters in the North that they felt no connection to.The many difference between the North and South caused conflict that eventually lead to war. The social differences between the north and the south were huge and caused a lot of conflict. One of the main parts of the social differences was the view on slavery. Slavery was more popular in the South and enslaved african americans lived in rural areas working on small farms and plantations doing a variety of jobs. This is important because this caused friction between the two regions, constantly fighting on weather it is okay to have slaves or not. Another difference was how women were treated in the society. Women for many years struggled for equal rights. Many believed that women should have equal right but many also believed that women were not physically or mentally stable to survive without the protection of men.(Deverell + White 425) Although many opposed and many agreed it caused a debate because the South believed it would ruin the way of life if women had right, while the North felt that it would be fine for women to have rights. Some people agreed in the South and some disagreed in the North but it caused an issue.
