The Civil War (1861-1865) was one of the important event in the American history. The war was fought between the Northern states and Southern States. Since the formation of the United States the cases that caused the Civil War had been brewing. There were five causes which led to the outbreak of the Civil War and they were unfair taxation, state rights, slavery, Wilmot Proviso, and the Compromise of 1850. First, unfair taxation was one of the reasons for the war. The economy of the Northern state and the Southern state were very different. The Northern state was rich in raw materials whereas the Southern state had vast lands favorable for farming. Due to the presence of raw materials the North was industrialized. Factories were built to utilize the raw materials. The South had large plantations of cotton and they heavily relied on slaves for economic success. People from the south used to sell their cotton to the cotton mills in England and they used to return with cheap goods produced in Europe. The factories of the North started producing similar kinds of stuff by 1800s. To make the South buy their products, the North imposed very high taxes on the imported things from Europe. The Compromise of 1850 is laws passed in 1850. The laws were meant to resolve dispute over the spread of slavery in the territories. The admission of California as a free state and the Fugitive Slave Act were the key factor in the Compromise of 1850. The Compromise preserved the union and peace for the moment. The implementation the Fugitive Slave Act brought the horrors of slavery into the North. This act was issued to help attract southern support for the legislative package, but its strict provisions for capturing runaway slaves provoked outrage in the North and intensified antislavery sentiment in the region.
