Have you ever noticed that a decision you made was because you wanted or needed something? This happens because it drives individuals to make decisions, whether that be the possession that you have wanted since you were younger or that dream trip you have wanted to go on since you were a teen. These sublime acts can cause both undesirable consequences and delightful experiences. Jonathan’s outlook on life was very positive and hopeful. He lost a son during the war, but he kept on being the supporting, loving father and husband, he needed to be for the rest of his family. One day his family was approached by robbers at their house. They demanded 120 pounds, however Jonathan only had 20 so he gave that to the robbers and explained his situation truthfully. The robbers left without causing harm to him, his house and his family. After this occurrence Jonathan went on with his life just like he normally did, which caused his family to do so as well. “... he was already strapping his five-gallon demijohn to his bicycle carrier and his wife, sweating in the open fire, was turning over akara balls in a wide clay bowl of boiling oil. In the corner his eldest son was rinsing out dregs of yesterday’s palm-wine from old beer bottles” (Achebe 42). His choice to go on with his life, not making a big deal out of the lost money was intelligent because he knew his family and routine was more important. What was the point of him sulking when he could get up the next day and work even harder. He was really proud of the money that was stolen, but he did not need the money before so why would he need it now.
