Civil unions is a structure of relationship acknowledgment that gives same-sex couples admittance to the state-level privileges and tasks of marriage. Consequentialism theory, challenges the way to settle if an act is ethical or not is to observe the penalty. The penalty of two accepting adults getting wedded is obviously not morally wrong. Civil unions and domestic partnerships may seem like equivalent unification, but the protections they give to registered couples is often far less than that of marriage. I believe that there needs to be gay marriages for various different reasons. Civil unions are not the same as gay marriages. The numbers of legal benefits are different, over 1,049 federal and state level benefits in marriage and only over 300 state level benefits which mean no federal protection. Civil unions allow couples to only file joint taxes in the state of the civil registration. It also allows couples to only make medical decisions in registered state. Basically it is so much more less than what traditional married couples get which is wrong.
