The city of Milwaukee was founded in the United States of America and was founded by Kylie Henson on December 14, 2015. Milwaukee lies on the border of lake michigan and is built on flat land. In the city of Milwaukee there is four seasons consisting of Summer, Spring, Winter, and fall. Summers are usually around eighty degrees and the winters are in the teens, twenties, and sometimes in the low thirties. In the new city of Milwaukee there is eleven police stations but most of them are kiosk. There is a medium high rate of crime in Milwaukee. Police have tried to fix the crime and it has gotten a little better. Milwaukee has twelve fire stations but one of the huge problems is that they aren’t getting to fires quick enough. The city has seven
At 2215 hrs, on November 28, 1942, Fire Alarm Headquarters from Box 1514, situated at Stuart and Carver streets, received an alarm. When the responding apparatus arrived they found a small car fire at the corner of Stuart Street and Broadway. After the fire was extinguished the firefighters were about to return to quarters when their attention was called to smoke emanating from the Cocoanut Grove Nightclub a few doors away. Upon their arrival at the entrance of the Broadway lounge on Broadway they encountered numerous people leaving the premises admidst the cries of “fire”. The chief in charge immediately ordered that a third alarm be sounded from Alarm Box 1521 which the alarm was received by fire alarm headquarters at 2223 hrs. A civilian sent an alarm that was received at 2220 by fire alarm headquarters. As soon as the chief in charge realized that the immediate problem was one of rescue he ordered that a fourth alarm (received at 2224) and a fifth alarm (received at 1102) be sent. The apparatus responding was comprised of 25 engine companies, 5 ladder companies, 1 water tower company, 1 rescue company and various other apparatus. 18 hose steams for cooling purposes and three ladders were utilized (located at Piedmont, Broadway, and Shawmut for venting operations).
The United States is no stranger to crime, unfortunately there has been an increased amount of criminal activity in the city of Columbus. The most drastic increase in criminal activity has been among teens as young as thirteen, and are usually commited during after school hours. The city of Columbus has made attempts to be proactive in reducing the crime rate in with little success. Many residents believe that increased punishment for adolescent crimes is the proper measure that needs to be taken. While, many other residents believe that parents should be held responsible for their children’s after school care. The average working adult in Columbus usually works on the average of at least forty hours a week to maintain an average lifestyle. With fifty-five percent of children living in a single parent household with a single income, it is near impossible for many of these parents to be able to not only supervise their children at all times, but afford care in most cases. This is a cry for help the city of Columbus should invest in an increase of free after school programs for children ages thirteen and older.
1. What is the difference between a. and a. East St. Louis (Life on the Mississippi) -Explain the statement that in East St. Louis, the city is organized for adults and NOT children. Overall, safety and poverty seem to be the main issues for children in the city of East St. Louis. Many of the families are said to live on less than 7,500$ a year and the city is basically described as a dump. With a lack of public services such as trash pick-up, residents are forced to place their trash all over the city.
The issue lies in the decline of the city. With the population shrinking from what it once was, industry moving away, and the highest rate of unemployment in the country, it may not be completely shocking that the whole metropolitan area has trouble keeping up. Amount of vacant buildings is on the rise and number of firefighters, and funding for fire departments, are on the decline. Emergency responder response time was once abysmal, and although it has improved with some effort, the city still has room for improvements elsewhere. It has to be hard to keep pace with a city that has a burnt down building on every other block, while fire stations are closing, staffing is not improving, and fire hydrants are falling into disrepair.
Detroit, once known as a bustling city of fast cars and bling, is now known for its poor education system. Detroit, minus its Red Wings, has failed at every turn economically and educationally. With its population cut in half and poverty rates soaring, there is no telling what can stop this disaster of a city. The only hope, it seems, is to better educate the region that Detroit inhabits. Detroit Public Schools has been one of the worst performing school districts in recent years. In 2013, the city of Detroit filed chapter 9 bankruptcy, the largest account of bankruptcy to-date. Good teachers avoid Detroit Public Schools because of the poverty, job quality, and low pay, leaving children with the unqualified teachers they have today in this poverty-plagued city that they call home.

If you live in or near Detroit you know the recession, which began roughly around December of 2007 still seems to exist. Detroit with its auto manufacturing background was hit very hard during the economic downturn of our country. What you may not know however is how city planners intend to breathe new life into what many consider a dying city. To the people who see us as a dying city, you have no vision. Urban renewal will bring renewed glory by preserving buildings that have cultural heritage, providing small business opportunities and rebuilding neighborhood communities.

Atlanta is the capital and largest city in Georgia, with a population of 472,522, and one of the fastest growing major cities in the United States.1 Originally, known as a railroad settlement, it was founded in 1837 as the end of the Western & Atlantic railroad line ( the name changed from Marthasville to Terminus, to finally Atlanta, the feminine of Atlantic). 10 In 1861, became one of the 11 states seceding from the Union over the issue of slavery.11 It was also the home front during the Civil War and a major producer of war materials, and the regional transportation and distribution center.11 Post-war, due to railroads, Atlanta continued to economically grow and diversify, along with its population.11 A large number of African-Americans were drawn to this booming city due to its opportunities for education and employment.11 By 1900, more than 40% of the total population comprised of Black/African-Americans.11 As Atlanta’s population grew, so did the racial tensions.11 Several riots broke off during the 1900’s, including the reemergence and formation of Ku Klux Klan headquarters in Atlanta.11Today, the city remains a transportation hub for the nation and the world, with the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.10 The city is considered a banking center and has the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the nation.10
This memo is in reference to the recent data received from the 3rd District Police Department in Grand Crossing which is a part of the Chicago Police Department located on the city’s South Side. It is also considered to be one of the city’s most violent neighborhoods. Therefore, I will be reporting on the dates between August 30, 2016 to September 12, 2016 for the police beat of 1533 and ward 28 and 29. Furthermore, I will give details on the administrative, tactical and strategic analysis for this area and how they can better help the department fight the high rate of crime for this small area that is made up of four main streets West Roosevelt Rd., South Laramie Ave, 5000 West Madison St. and South Cicero Ave. Although, this is a small area and the data that has been received is data for a two-week time frame there has been 24 incidents during this time. Now the incidents that have been mainly reported for this area has been six motor vehicle theft, eight larcenies, two aggravated assault, one burglary, six robberies and one criminal sexual assault. Unfortunately, for this small area this is a large amount of crime for only two weeks and the majority of it has been happening on the streets between the hours of 18:00 or 6 pm and 23:30 or 11:30 pm. Although, there are some reports of crime happening over in the morning or midday, the majority of it happens when people are either getting off of work or going out to dinner as well as happens on the streets, sidewalks or in an alley for a quick getaway. Now the reason it is happening is because the unemployment rate for this area is 18.8%, 17.9% in the area does not have a high school diploma and the average income per-capita is $17,213. Therefore, once again the low education rate a...
On a large scale, the city of Detroit is encompassed by an eclectic mix of houses, people, and businesses. It is a city known for its resiliency and its ability to always rise from the ashes of adversity. Within its neighborhoods, lies a series of interconnected communities. These communities are better known as Detroit Public Schools. For the purposes of this report I will focus on three schools, Mason Elementary, WestSide Academy, and Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School, located on the city’s west side.
A few summers ago, I had the privilege to ride along in a patrol car two times with the Michigan State Police Bay City Post. As I was side by side with the troopers, I observed many things. I never knew how much they used technology. Not only computers, but other things as well. Throughout one’s shift, the officer communicates on his radio frequently. This radio can broadcast all around the county to other police officers and stations. That is the way that the word about a crime gets spread. If an officer is down, he or she can just talk into their radio and help will come as soon as possible.
In the documentary, “Cleveland: Confronting Decline in an American City” the short movie analyses the great risk confronting Cleveland as a city as result of deterioration and dilapidation of the urban core. The documentary discusses factors that are responsible for this problem and possible solutions; as this has become a phenomenon, not just in Cleveland but other major US cities. The issue of the urban decline in most cities cuts across people, commerce, and the economy in general. However, the questions of how most cities arrived at their current predicament, consequences of abandoning these concerns, and what can be done to reverse the bad situation, remain unanswered.
The Milwaukee Project is a study that was conducted in the 1960s in Milwaukee where there was a higher rate of Intellectual Disabilities. The participating families were economically disadvantaged and the parents had low IQs their selves. Researchers separated participating families into two groups; one that received interventions and the other did not. The families that were receiving interventions, received help getting the adults lives on track (paying for school or other trainings that lead to better jobs) and starting the kids out at an earlier stage in life by sending them to daycare. The children that received the interventions were more well rounded and had higher IQs than the other group did. The group that didn’t receive interventions
♦ Have officers work in one neighborhood for a long time. Have more foot or bicycle patrols. Give officers enough time on calls to get to know the people they serve.
