An experience that expires me to achieve my goals at Colorado Christian University is my current occupation and job. When I first entered college back in 1992, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. Toward the end of my prerequisite classes that would lead me into nursing school I became pregnant with my first child. Even though I was pregnant I still had the motivation to finish school despite me feeling sick and tired all the time. I switched all my classes to night because of my fatigue and illness. It became too overwhelming so I took a break. I still needed that feeling of accomplishment, so I went to a vocational school to obtain my certified nursing assistant license. I finally received a phone call for my interview to work in the registration department in the emergency room. I was able to learn every aspect of the job and more throughout my eight years of employment at the hospital. Obtaining a nurses degree still remained in the back of my mind. I just couldn’t figure out how to provide for my child and go back to school too. So life began for me with now three children to provide for. In 2005, everyone that I knew of life was turned upside down. The devastation of hurricane Katrina affected my entire family, parents, kids cousin, aunts, uncles siblings ,friends etc. The city we knew as home was no more. I was forced out of my comfort zone. Wondering what to do. Once I arrived to Dallas, Texas, relatives was able to give me resources to apply for jobs. I completed so many applications a day. I could hardly keep up. I just knew I needed a job and fast. After two weeks I received my first interview. Needless to say I had no idea where I was going for the interview. I just knew I would find it. I was determined to get the job. The interview was with my current employer. Yes I got the job. Ten
