Food safety laws and acts such as the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011was put in place to prevent contamination by one person or a group of people being careless or malicious. The court system would have to prove that someone was guilty of contaminating the food source with an intent to harm. Personally, I do agree with the spokesperson of Chipotle saying, “It’s not so much the outbreak itself, it’s the response.” For example, Taco Bell and Jack in the Box, E.coli and norovirus outbreaks can be identified, contained, and fixed by temporary shutting down their restaurants and eliminating the outbreaks. Also, the spokesperson said “Historically, companies have been able to rebound from food safety problems such as this and returned back to business.” I personally perspective on this article stays the same because I am passionate about company’s providing quality food for people when they are spending their hard earned money. Even though Chipotle’s sells sank nearly five percent during the outbreak I believe it was necessary to close temporary for all the right ethical reasons rather than for company profits.
